Telephone long distance

I was signed up with my local providers long distance and AT&T did not like this so they switched me to their service with out my knowledge now I have a whopper of a phone bill they refuse to pay the long distance bill,(I have unlimited service from my local provider for 20$ a mo) and a reconnect charge from my local phone company...WTF??????:smileywac

ATT pulled that on me once. I called them up and threatened to report them to the FCC. After it was all said and done, they credited my account and then some. I would demand they drop all the charges - as far as I know thats a big no no to switch you without asking - didn't they make a law about that? I don't know how ATT is where you are, but around here they get annoyed with unhappy customers. In my case they threw some money at the problem. At the end of the day, the only thing ATT is worried about is their stock price. I worked for ATT/Wisconsin Belll/Ameritech whatever the name is now for many years. [/off soap box]

Some thing like that happened to me. It turned out that my local company bought time blocks from the big supplier (at+t, in your case) and mistakenly programed me ( it's a number code) onto the wrong long distance. They payed my bill for a couple of months.

My best advice...pester them to death :D

Mike, this is known as "slamming" and is illegal under both federal and state law.

here's a link to the Commission's info page. There should be a link to your State's Public Utility Commission.

The legalese is at 47CFR 64.1100

Thanks Jim it is resolved already all you have to do is push the subject and everyone fixes the problem for you .(and also gives you a little extra)

They did it to me and it ended up costing me $1400 PLUS DOLLARS FOR ONE MONTH !!! I did not win even after fighting and now only use a phone card for all long distance at a tenth of what it was costing me before

Our house phone has the absolute minimum service (you have to ask for it). No LD, only local calls, pay per minute, and it still costs $36 per month.

We use our cell phones for all calls, the house is only for 911.

In CT, which is SBC, who morphed into being ATT, because SBC bought out ATT and took the name because it was more recognizable and respected than SBC, charges extra to opt out of any long distance carrier.

I like my local provider they give me unlimited phone service local and long distance and unlimited 1.5meg DSL
and voice mail. No cell service were I live!!! and nowhere close. It costs me under 100$ a month. I talk alot on long distance not much local.

No home service at all, only cells here. Cut the home service when the only calls where from telemarketers and the like of scum bottom of the barrell sales calls.

NO, long distance costs to my Verizon cell, I have 4 numbers on my account....around 90.00 a month.

life is good!

I should also mention that it is crystal clear. My TOTAL MONTHLY BILL for Cable and RoadRunner Hispeed internet service PLUS the SunRocket phone service only cost me $92.00 PER MONTH!!!!! :D ;)
