Teddy's view on immigration...

Ricochet

New member
It's time for this reminder.

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907:

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Ahhh, the way it should be.

I like the day when people actually said what should be said.

No PC back then.

Too bad none of the politicians of today have the vision and insight into what makes a great country and society that our forefathers had 100 years ago......

LOL I thought someone might think that.

The real Teddy not the loser Teddy! ;)

I really wish some politician would stand up for what Teddy said right now. I think most politicians are afraid to make a policy and fear of hurting their campaigns.

Ted Kennedy in my book has to be the biggest _______________, well my dad always said if you can't say anything good about a person don't say it at all.

He may be, but he is wealthier than all of us put together!!!! Yes, he did inherit a lot of money, but he also made a lot on his own. You might not like his political views, but don't underestimate the man, he is very intelligent and can run circles around many of the other politicians. His downfall was being short sighted when confronted with an accident of tragic proportions. Nothing that many other wealthy people have never learned to deal with either. Unfortunately, they believe that if you throw enough money at any problem, it will go away... not so any longer..

Junk, you're wasting your time and bandwidth. These guys have their preconceived notions, their cute little names and insults, and can't be confused with facts. I've given up for the most part, and when I get fed up enough with the stupidity, I go away for a while.

I've been saying for years that we need another TR. From what I know of him, he was sensible and down to earth. I'd even vote for him whether he was an elephant or a jackass.:tiphat::beer:

Don does not have though, anyone not dem to him is not worthy, not a person, or just not right...........

I thought this was about ole TK also. I did not read it for a while because of that. Dont need to read about him

That reminds me about putting back a Hunter brand of ceiling fan at Lowes yesterday because most all of the instructions were in Spanish. The clerk at Lowes told me that since most of the questions they get at their (Hunter's) call center seem to be from Spanish speaking people, they put most of the detailed instructions on their items in Spanish. There wasn't squat on their box in English! Hopefully Harbor Breeze is a decent brand of fan. I boycotted the Hunter brand since they are refusing to recognize that our primary language here in the U.S. is the English language.

This bi-lingual crap is really getting to me. Do these, mostly Mexican, immigrants not understand that the politicians are not doing them any favor by putting everything in English and Spanish for them? I've said it before, and I'll say it again, they will NEVER assimilate into our society if they do not learn the language here. I would never think of going to Mexico City and expect everyone there to speak English. Also, are we not showing discrimination against my Japanese friends since we do not have instructions on everything in Japanese for them?

The same can be said about bin-Ladin. Do you put him in the same boat? If ole Kennedy really is that intelligent, then the American people really are that stupid in general. One of my biggest issues with Kennedy and Hillary is that they most certainly talk down to the American people and consider the people too stupid to know how to spend their own money. Ah, but enough on the liberal left...

That about sums it up..... It always strikes me funny that the Democratic party, in general, is said to speak for the common folks and blue collar people.. Anyone not agreeing with them must be "stupid".. All this while Kennedy, who is rich for doing nothing in hiw career as a "nothing".. His only claim to fame, the only reason anyone knows him is because he was a killer who's brother was the president.... He is weathier than most in this country, along with the likes of Hillary(who is another story all together) and the common folks(blue collar guys) still think they are in their best interest? ...

Everyone's entitled to their opinion but to call anyone, not a Democrat, stupid for not agreeing with them is just another political tactic that is belittleing and alienating allot of people in this country.. Makes you wonder who the common folk are and why they have less control of the country than ever before:confused: .........

Roosevelt had it right, as did many of the forefathers of this country.. This is why we live in the greatest country in the world, this is how we differentiate from the rest of the world... In America, American citizens come first(regardless of origin).. If you dont support the country and follow the laws of the land, you are "entitled" to the "right" to a free trip to the nearest boarder and not allowed to return.. Blew it once, go to the back of the line.... If we as a country would just stop kissing peoples ass' with PC and do whats right for our survival we would all be better off.. 9/11 happened because of lax immigration policies, it needs to stop... And thats the fault of Dems and Repubs alike, they both screwed up and have no intentions of making it right...Perfect example is Hillary, who after making a statement that "all illegal imigration must be stoped" made another statement the other day saying "these people who cut our grass and serve us, deserve better"... Talk about playing the "vote game", its typical politics... Screw the people of this country, what can I say to get more votes is now the normal political platform...

Like Don said, I've pretty much given up speaking about politics because since I dont agre with the left, I must be stupid..

We already have another TR - his name is Pat Buchanan and he has been demonized to the point where I doubt he would ever consider running for president again. If he was smart he would just lie - say that he is ashamed that he has been hiding his homosexuality all these years, say immigrants can come across the border unimpeded, tell the American public that the govt will give them all free healthcare, condoms for their 12 year olds, 40 acres and a mule, schooling all the way thru college and beyond, and lay the blame on the white man and his opression of the native peoples - then once he got elected he could revert back to his true beliefs and start instituting them. When the press all start crying about how he lied to them he could just ignore like our present politicians do and keep just doing whatever he wanted.

Somehow I don't think he will do that though because he usually says what he really believes in - which is why he won't get elected.

Amen! :thumb:

BTW, the Japanese that come here to work have to go to 3 months of English school before starting (unless they already speak good English). The Japanese certainly don't come here expecting use to know their language, so the Hispanics shouldn't either.

Can a Mod change the title of this thread to Teddy R...please. ;)

If all of you people are so smart and know all the answers, then how come you are not politicians running the country, state, county or town governments????? Seems that on this site, we have some of the most opinionated or intelligent people who have all the answers to all the worlds problems, but don't seem to put any of their great wealth of knowledge and problem resolutions into play in the political arena.....

Typical Clinton hypocrisy in action…her husband taught her well.

I highly recommend the "Bio book" that was put out on TR .I have it around here someplace . It is quite a read . The guy did not have a easy road to the top spot .One tough son of a bi#ch though ...

He would probably kick asses and take a few names if he was alive today .

BULLY BULLY !!!!

First of all I never said anything bad about ole Ted. And what does money have to do with his political career and whether one should like him or not. But as long as you brought it up, he got most of it from ole daddy and I am sure he did increase what he had from his dad.

I don't care for Ted because I believe he is two faced, he says what he wants when he wants for political and personal gain.

Wasn't too long ago he was bashing Bush for not coming up with alternative energy sources but then he goes across town and knocks down one of the best alternative wind energy projects out there.

He sits proudly on the Committee for Judge Clarence Thomas and tries to eliminate him for sexual reasons when he should be clearing up his own name first from many years ago. His name and money got him cleared of that I am sure.

There is many good democrates out there that I have even voted for. But I don't believe Ted is one of them. If he is so good why doesn't he try running for the Presidency then again. I don't think the Dem's would allow him too as is would be disaster. Just my opinion

That is much easier said than done when politics are involved. The common American's voice is heard at the ballot box! That's why I exercise my right to vote every chance I get.

What do you do in the political arena? Nothing? If so, that is sort of a lame generalization of us.

You know I do enjoy spirited political debate. However I have noticed that when confronted, folks of liberal persuasion often exhibit two more or less typical responses repeatedly.

1. They resort to insult; and often call the other side NAZI or stupid or question their motives or intentions.

or;

2. They stick their fingers in their ears and yell " I cant hear you!!! I cant hear you!!!

We are only on page two of this thread and we have already generated both responses.

Thank you very much for starting this one Mr. Richochet.

Your time probably would have been more wisely spent in that pasture this fine morning however.:thumb:

As the son of an immigrant, and someone with many relatives that are also immigrants, I can tell you that the only real way to become even modestly successful in American society (and I am not saying to become a millionaire, I'm saying to get bumped up the job ladder, to buy a home, etc) is to assimilate into our society by learning the English language. Schools that have bi-lingual classes are known to actually produce fewer kids who go to college. There is no question in my mind that we need to assimilate foreigners into our culture, our language and our society. It is what made this nation a strong UNIFIED nation. I wholeheartedly agree that we should take in the poor wretched hungry masses of other nations (that is what my family was when they got here) and despite the humble beginnings, every first generation American in my family (including cousins, etc) is by any standard a successful productive contributing American. Every one owns at least one home, many own one or more business, each works their ass off and produces jobs and pays taxes. Multiply this times THOUSANDS of other ASSIMILATED immigrants and that is what made American society a melting pot that is stronger than any other single nation. But the key is we all need to consider ourselves Americans FIRST, and if we are Scottish, Irish, Slavic, German, Polish, Russian, Baltic, French, Italian, Greek, Palestinian, Jewish, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or whatever else there is, then we subject our former nationality to its rightful 2nd place BEHIND our ADOPTED American nationality. While we adopted America, we need to be thankful that America adopted us and allowed us to come here.
