Take a look at this.

1975 Snow trac

New member
Hi,

I was moving my snow trac today when my girlfriend stopped me and said "look at this". I stopped and seen that my track wanted to ride up my sprockets when I would turn. If I turn to the left, the right side track would want to ride up the right side sprockets. If I turn to the right the left side track would want to ride up the those sprockets.

I just had the sprockets and tracks off. I tighten the tracks to the what the ST4 manual says, but I think they are still too loose. The tracks also have room in between the guides tires to slide. I don't know if there is a limt to how much the track should be allowed to slide.

Anyways take a look at the pictures and let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Mike

I think I read somewhere that Snow Tracs like to de-track when off the snow, especially when on grass. Too much friction or something. Keep it in the snow, leave all four seasons to the Kristis!

I also installed a alternator, wiring harness (home made), distributor, plugs, coil, plug wires, fuse box, rebuilt fuel pump, welded up gussets through the machine, dome light and hole bunch of other stuff.

Sorry about the pictues, Its dark up here in Alaska......

Those tracks are way to loose! The Snow Tracs dont have problems detracking in grass like the Snow Masters do. OK here is how you do it. Back up in a staright line. Then pull "STRAIGHT" forward about 40 feet and let of the gas and let her roll to a stop with no brakes. Take a "straight 2x4 and lay it on the back big wheel and the upper boggie or track guide. Halfway between the two is where you will take your measurements. OK Now the track adjustment is on the inside of the rear big wheel. DONT ADJUST what most people think is the track adjustment up front by the sprocket. THATS NOT IT. You will need to crawl undernieth her in the rear to do the adjustments. After both sides have been adjusted run her around a bit then repeat the straight forward for 40" and let roll to a stop. Re-measure. Adjust tracks again if needed. Dont run the tracks to tight. If you need the measurments for track slack PM me.

Good info.
I have been adjusting the tracks by the bolt at the inside of the rear wheel. The front one is to adust the chain inside the engine room.
I'll tighten some more tomorrow.
Thanks Sno Op.
