What type of chemicals do you use?

18 by 32 rectangle, the pool guy puts in the chemicals, not sure what brand he uses but it is chlorine based, he shows up 3 days a week to clean it. I do know it uses a sand filter.

I used to take care of it, my wife got fed up with that and I have never been happier! :yum:
 
That was fast! Very nice to have a service on it! I would love to have that for mine. But for now I am stuck!..LOL
 
16X32 above ground using a DE filter. We do use chlorine as well. The best thing I ever did was switch to the DE filter. I buy a lot of supplies from intheswim.com.
 
After living in South Fla and having pools in the family that I helped to take care of, I swore I'd never have another...:D ... But, the wife and son wanted one...............So, guess what we got a couple weeks ago:pat: .. Keeping it simple and trying to avoid the HUGE cost of a real pool(like I'm familiar with) we got an Intek 12x20x4 above ground(big bag with an inflatable ring)..Its really cool, and for the money is actually the perfect soloution to my delima.. Surely if we find that we cant do without it over time, I'll end up springing for an in ground...

The service definitly sounds like the way to go.. I'm finding out how much more there is to a pool than I remember.. Curently we're using chlorine granuals, stabilizer and shock..Going really good so far, but I would like to find a system that takes the every day maint out of it...
 
We have a 20' X 40' in ground and love it. I do 100% of the cleaning and upkeep myself. Once I get the chemicals stable after opening, I use about 1 Frog Bac Pac every 2 weeks or so and sometimes have to raise the PH after a heavy rain. I throw in our Dolphin pool cleaner once a week and clean the skimmers then, back flush the sand filter then, and I'm all set.

I check the chemicals in our water about 3 or 4 times a week, and the water is always perfectly clear. I'd say that I spend an average of about 45 minutes to 1 hour a week total on the pool cleaning and chemical adjustments. It's worked great for several years this way for me. I'm happy with the arrangement. :thumb:
 
20 X 40 inground. Polaris pool cleaner with booster pump and automatic chlorinator. Maintenence 1 day per week, sand filter pump runs 24/7. Water stays crystal clear.

I do not get anal with PH or other chemicals. Just once a week works for my situation. When we are having company over with lots of folks using the pool, I make adjustments before and after.

My chemical list is simple. A good quality algecide, 3" chlorine tablets, granular chlorine and PH-Additive. My philosophy is keep it simple, and do what works.
 
That might be my issue, I'm not using the KISS method... I've been reading the pool book and check it and add chloring every day.. I need to get the chlorine floater for tabs...Is anyone using the salt method?
 
The two happiest days of an above-the-ground pool owner is the day you buy it and the day you finally get rid of it.
 
Well, at the urging of my kids I opened our pool yesterday. It took $18 in chemicals to get everything in balance and about 3 hours cleaning. The only issue now is that I am not turning on the pool heater....yet. Does that make me bad? I'll turn on the pool heater when I'm ready to get in. :D

Not at all... They should just appreciate that they do have a pool.

For those of us that swim in lakes as we don't have a pool, it's almost always cold. If/when it does get warm, we get to swim in the seaweed (although it does add a recreational factor since you can throw it at others :thumb: ).
 
Because our pool is 150' away from the house, down a hill and through the woods, I have an elaborate solar heater with no other heater to supply heat (running the gas line out there was as much as the cost of a pool), we keep the pool temp at about 90-94 degrees. I see no reason to jump into cold water.

OK, now you've peaked me curiosity..... How do you know when to add wich and how much? Never heard of this method, though it does make some sence to me..
 
I HAD an inground 16x32 (small) pool. Now been removed..best thing I did. My parents have a little bigger 20x40 and pools are great when they are not yours!!!

they run Ozone and use like almost nothing for chemicals annd water is better then any chemical you can add hands down.

before ozone my parents and myself where doing the samething. had the copper and Alu plates in the filter, Ion plates. They worked but not like ozone.

It is the same for my reef tank. People THINK they have clean and clear water and then they see ozone in there. It looks like no water in tank (like a reef). ORP is a great thing!
