SW48

Boggie in the first pic you can see the bare spindle. In the second pic there is a pipe sleeve about 1 1/2" long that goes on first. People are telling me that the seal goes on next, followed by the inner bearing, rim (with 2 races & rim). Then the outer bearing, castle nut, cotter pin & cap.
Shouldn't I have something between the sleeve & seal ?? Also isn't there supposed to be a washer (with a hook tooth) go on between the outer bearing & castle nut ?? This is a 1947 Bombardier b12 woody. I need everything.

Last question, is the rim from a SW 48 the same as what goes on mine ??

Thanks

OT, what should be on there old style is the seal which should ride on the sleeve then the bearing followed by the wheel with the bearing races installed then the outer bearing ( smaller) then the nut. a cotter pin keeps it from getting loose then the grease cap. There were some that had a shim to make the nut work out better. If I can I will scan the parts blow up and post
Not sure there was one on the 1947 I do have one for the newer units they are close but not the same

on the SW wheel it will not work the way it is because it is made for a straight spindle of 1.5" and yours are tapered smaller on the outside you either need the old style wheels or you can put a adapter inside a SW wheel which will convert the one side to the smaller bearing. or you can change all the axles out to the larger size. we have done this and it is a pretty big job .
but it works. I would recommend finding the original wheels.

Thanks Boggie for the info. But I always thought there was a washer with the tooth in it that fits into the grove on the spindle between the outer bearing & nut. Thanks again.
OT.

Sounds to me like you are talking about lock washer type where you bent the whasher over the nut to keep it from loosening. Instead of the castle nut and cotter pin style.

Chetdb how would that keep the nut in place ?? It could still turn around. And what good then is the slot in the spindle ??

I didn't think they had those on the Buses? but maybe, they have a internal
tab that fits the slot, to keep it from turning then the outter tabs bent over the outside of the nut to keep it from turning,
