SW48 heater questions

looking for some information on heater hose location I have a 1974 sw48 with a 250 ci straight six it appears one hose comes out by the water pump the other comes out the rear of the back of the head I'm new to these type of machines runs fairly well but carb frosts up I would like to run a carb heater plate one that uses water running from heater hose I saw them on some older ford 200 engines

Yes , those are the locations for the heater. I run 2 251's and 1 265, never had any issues with the carbs icing and the exhaust heaters below the intakes are all long worn out. Post some pics when you get a chance.

Just to double check, 250, as in chev 6 cyl ,or 250 -251 flathead dodge ?
If it's a flathead dodge I would be surprised for it to be in that newer cab style.
I have one the same with a Perkins
 
Ok , that makes sense Ford, got my wires crossed, been working on a Flathead dodge lately and have that on the Brain.
There is a restoration of a SW48 by Bobcatbob on this Forum its, worth checking out. Keep the pics coming !

I'll take a look do you know of anyone that mounted a western or meyer plow on one of these the v plow is nice for breaking trail or if you used it on a sidewalk

All of the SW48's here that I have seen are angle blades , I once saw a bunch of V plow equipped units for sale in new york state.

Here in Western NY I've seen both Actually I own three Two sw48s and one older unit I bought the two sw48s from a landscaper an snow removal company The older unit I got it for free from a friend of a friend he was trying to sell it It didn't have a motor or trans
or cab he wanted to put a small block chevy in it. He welded the mounts in it and that was about it When I went to look at It didn't look the same as what I had I thought I could use some parts like tracks wheels Then comes the funny part he told me if I could get it out of his driveway that day I could have it for free Went got the trailer couple friends had to come-along it all the way on His wife told me she told him it had to go he had it for three years I've had it for about four years I'll get some pictures of all three and put them on
 
Here’s a couple pics of the Ford 300 in the SW48: heater hose locations and the carb (it’s a Holley 1940 single barrel). If your carb is freezing up, check that their is no phenolic riser or anything keeping engine heat from it. If you‘re at a high altitude, maybe the airplane guys in here have a suggestion for carb heat/shields.

thanks for the pictures Bob What i have is 2 sw48s 1973 or 74 its red 1979 or 80 its yellow The yellow one has the ford 300 4.9 engine it has no problems with frost lots of other problems I'll get into those at another time The red one has a ford 250 4.1 engine with a 4 speed the red one is the one with the problem after doing some research I found out that in the sixties some ford models used carb spacers that the heater hose ran through No one has been able to tell me why this was done I found some on ebay the order is in I realize that I will have to modify it a little So what I need to know is I have heater hose coming off water pump and one coming off the back of the head are these correct and witch way is the flow Bob I checked out your other post on he steering gears and related parts it will be very useful when I tear into the yellow one Any help would be appreciated
 
The flow should go from the pump (the pipe sticking out to the left) to the heater, then from the heater to the connection by the head (next to the thermostat).
 
Thanks Bob for that information My next question is the yellow sw48 has a axle leak on the left front size I've seen the posts on disassembling put my question is I have this green one
I have used the sold tires with the rims on the yellow one Can you tell me what model it is and will the drive line parts axles ,sprockets gearing tracks interchange

The yellow SW48 looks about the same age as mine, late 70’s. The green machine…..that might be a J5 (our member J5 might be able to verify)…….not sure on interchangeability, but I’d bet they are very close if not the same.

The front left axle will have an oil seal between the axle and drive shaft. When you remove the sprocket and get into the tapered bearing, you’ll see an oil seal……this will stop any overflow from the differential fluid “splashing” out. If the leak is between the frame and axle, a little Right Stuff gasket maker around the flange will work well (what I did vs. pulling the axle).
