sv302 questions

I'm new to the forum and snow cat ownership. I bought sv 302 with hydro assist and band brakes. Do you need the band brakes or can you just use the hydro assist?

They both operate the band brakes...

The long manual sticks do it the hard way, the short flip ups at the front edge of the seat do the same as the manuals do, only with hydrolic power. Be sure you check the rear end lube, as some may still have Dextron or ATF in them. Not good. John Deere J20C is one of the hydrolic oils thats works pretty well. In our clubs 252, we cut the manual levers off, for more room for the operator....and use the short sticks or ram steer with the drag on occasion.

thanks Kirk do you know if it is hard to find parts for this machine Like front wheel I dont know how much longer this one will hold on. I would also like to know if it has rounded cleats can it be driven on grass it also has narrow tracks. thanks Eric

72,

Boogie, a member here at Minn. Outdoors has parts for your machine. Send him a PM you need. If you look around the snow cat forum a bit you may find his posts, then click on his handle. From the page you bring up click on contact info and you will then be able to leave him a message. Or do a search for his handle...

Narrow tracks tells me you have sumer tracks, steel cleats like 31" wide? Tall grass that is not mowed should be no problem, but stay away from short or mowed grass. "rounded cleats" I am not familiar with, so cann't really say. At any rate it will be tough on the grass, tough enough not sure why anyone would do this to an area that they mow. Plus it may detrack on such surface.....don't want that. Now is the time to get it ready for snow!

How do you tell what lube is in the rear end? I have a 252 that I bought from the City of Greenbay WI . I have not change it. I talked to a dealer in QC (Planord) and they said to use the Dextron. Now I'm very confused. What is the frequency that it should be changed?
