SV301 turning problem

I purchased a SV301 1974 at a auction, I didn't see it at the time a buddy got it for me. He said the turning was fine. I bought it in January and it was sitting in a shipping yard until I received it today. Today it won't turn at all. This is all new to me, anyone have any ideas of what I should look for and where? Thanks

i'm not familiar with the sv-301 but if it's like the other skidozers i have seen its hudraulic master cylinders controled by latteral sticks that apply pressure to the slave cylinders at the differential i would start by checking fluid levels at the master cylinders if they are dry you may need to blead the systemthe differential is a complex version of the open diff in the rear end of your car so you are just applying breaking power to one trck or the other no de clutching if brakes are ok check the fluid in the diff i've herd bombi diffs were good for getting water in them boggie is the forum member with the most experiance with these machines

Will it looks like I will get a a few days off from work so I brought the 301 in the garage today for to try and find the problem.
I drained the oil (and water) from the differential, I drained almost 10 gallons of mostly water. Not sure how much oil goes into this ,but by the dip stick I would say maybe 2 gallons. This thing was full.
I may have found some of the turning problem,,the adjustment nuts where really slack. The brake pads look almost new and I would say about 1/2 thick.
What could I use to wash out the old oil and water? Could I use some diesel oil?Or would this burn some seals?
I have allot of work to do on this machine, I have to change almost all the cleats on the track and all the tires on one side of the dozer.

A little help on the cleaning would be good. Don't want to screw up anything else

Thanks

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I was told water in the differential might also lead to some pretty pitted gears in there. Hopefully that's not your case. I agree that Boggie (forum member) is super knowledgeable about the Bombardier. I bought a SV200 (1973 model) from him.

Thanks for the reply.
I was replacing the sprockets today and noticed allot of play on one of the sprockets. After inspecting the gears I could see two gears had almost all the teeth missing. Pulled everything out and sure enough two striped gears. Have just ordered the replacements. My investment is just growing and growing and growing.

I am still working on this machine when I get the chance. I think it is almost ready to take out of the garage. But I still have questions....
I don't know how these machines work. I have it jacked up off the floor and I am trying to adjust the steering.
When I put it in gear and have the tracks turning and pull on one handle, it will not come to a complete stop. It will slow down a bit and the other track will turn a little faster. My question is "when you pull on the handles do the tracks come to a complete stop, or is this normal? Thanks

I have posted the long answer to this many times, the short answer is no. one goes to 1/3 speed the other to 2/3 speed. thus causing a turn. if you were to pull both at the same time they work as a brake.
