This is a big win for Trump, and for free elections.
Basically, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that the president does have some immunity from prosecution for actions taken while president that are of an official nature. They are not saying that Trump cannot stand trial, but that the actions he took while president must first be determined, individually, by lower courts, and possibly all the way to the Supreme Court again, to have been official or not. If not, then, and only then, could he be brought to trial for those unofficial actions.
This means that the Biden administration's little plan, via special prosecutor Jack Smith, to prosecute Trump before the election has been derailed. It will take too long for the courts to determine which acts may be considered official, and therefore not prosecutable, for them to get any kind of trial going before November.
Trump is now free to campaign without the interruption of sitting in a courtroom, like we saw a couple of months ago with the "hush money" trial. It is a win for those of us who want to see a free and fair election process that is not tainted by the political and legal weaponization of Biden's government against his political rival.
