Super imp on ebay

I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THE iMP ON EBAY IN COLORADO AND CANT BELIEVE THAT IT SOLD FOR 10600 WITH A BAD TRANS DID AMYONE BID ON IT LARRY

I had bid on it as a project to restore. I wouldn't give that much for it with all the problems it had. ( I called and got some info on it ) The price was pretty low until the last minute. To get back my labor, it would have had to be much less expensive. I would like to find a nice cat to restore to like new again. :thumb:

I spoke to Bill at sno-trans today to tell him I will pick up my cat at the end of the month and asked if he had bid on it and he was the wining bidder. He also said that there may mot be anything wrong with the trans as thay have a problem with rev if thay set to long. still seamslike a lot but it makes the 1202 thiokol that i just bought from him for 14,000 with 302 hr a good deal Larry

I'm amazed it sold for that if for no other reason that the risk is there! Do you guys remember the Imp (ok, I don't recall if it was a 1404 or 1450, etc.), but it was located in Utah and was in absolutely gorgeous condition? It didn't sell and his reserve was 11,000. This was about 6 months ago. That thing looked a mess for $10,600... but like I said, just the risk was alone of buying site unseen (phone or no phone conversation), warrants a few thousand less. Remember the one that SnoOps bought? That thing was worth significantly more than it sold for but it didn't go this high. Maybe it's in part that folks feel comfy that it's being sold from a gov't entity. Seems Bill has enough of these things that he wouldn't need this one. Kind of odd to me.

To turn it into a nice $18,000 Super Imp could take some serious time and money. Peterson's told me that reverse and first work together, so it could have just been the rigging on the shifter. But the body looked like it had seen some much better days. To look at it makes you wonder what care the engine and drive train had recieved or didn't recieve. It could work out for him, but I'm not going to risk it.

Don't you guys think this is just an indication that the bar is being raised on these mechanical steer machines? Snotrans doesen't stay in business by making bad purchase decisions. And others bid him up to that price. The days of finding a "steal" are probably about over. Certainly over on E-Bay where everything is being listed "by a friend who dosen't know much about these things" but it has usually been "government maintained" and sellers are happy as hell the buyer lives a thousand miles away. I agree with Mainer. Alot of real scat passes through E-Bay. The writing is on the wall. Those of us who like these things are hording 2,3,4, ... even 7 of them and driving the values up.

mtncrawler I think you said it very well. These mechanical steering machines will be around as long as there is fuel to run them. Thats why we restarted our Snow Cat Parts business as
'Spryte Improvement' -parts, rebuilding, restoration-of 1400, 1200, 1500, 2100 Thiokol/LMC/DMC snowcats. With Snotrans and others help we'll keep these machines running better than ever! One sometimes has to think outside the box when it comes to improving reliability. I've taken enough of them apart to know what "impeccable" maintenance is, or what "gone through" means..... :pat:
On ebay it seems that a high reserve price can halt the bidding , just like a regular auction will. Also snowcats and peoples interest in them is seasonal, and it is now September.

It's funny... I just got a call from a guy with a Thiokol 3700. Now, those are far from my favorite machine as they're so purpose-built for grooming rather than back country adventure with lots of people which is the stuff I like. Anyway, he picked this puppy up a few years ago and it runs like a champ but his wife is tired of looking at it and they aren't using it as much as they thought they would. So, he's willing to let it go for a few things in trade... or cash... but either way he's looking for peanuts! THESE are the nice deals that we all lust after...they're still out there (not the machines we are all looking for but at least I can't complain as it would help balance out my collection by actually floating on top of the snow!). ;) Yea, and also...not mechanical... but how can I beat practically free??????????
It is funny how these things are addicting... I will bet you that the vast majority of us are the personality types that really like independence and hard-core solutions...ie, no matter what, we know that we can always get out of a snow-storm with our cats... Who knows, maybe I'm reading into things but I have this suspicion. I have an auto-switch-over home 24KW generator and a backup for that...blah, blah, blah...
Anyway, back to the cat... maybe I'll pick it up and put a swanky-cab on the back that attaches into the front cab. Hmmm.... more projects!
