Stupid stuff after MS updates

Gone But Not Forgotten
I did the critical updates this morning and since then Messenger has tried to install as an auto run. Just now Outlook Express (which I never use) popped open while reading a post and wanted to be my default mail client. Anybody ever run into this? Guess it is time to go exploring and see what else needs deleted that they added this morning. There were only 2 updates and one was malicious software tool and the other was a security update.

To be honest, I run Vista and stopped installing Windows updates a long time ago. I used to have it on "auto update" and I'd come get on this computer, find it was totally screwed up and have to spend 2 ... 3 ... 4 hours figuring out what was going on and reconfiguring everything. I know that the computer police will jump all over me for not updating but it's too much of a hassle. I'll wait until this computer is absolutely unmanageable and then upgrade to Windows 7.

I am just the opposite. I have a HP laptop running Vista that I have on automatic update. Fortunately I have never had a problem with whatever new software was loaded. I have had it on automatic update since the first day I hooked it to the internet.

I have heard others talk about having problems with Vista, but for me, it has been a very stable platform.

Funny how each of us has different experiences with Vista.

The only problems I've had with Vista was the original update to SP2. It gave me fits till I finally went in, took it off and the re loaded. Not sure if it was bad code or what.

We have 2 other computers running Windows 7 and XP that have no problems when on automatic update, it's just this desk top running Vista. I don't know what's wrong with it and believe me, I've spent hours upon hours trying to find out. If I do update, it gets so screwed up that I have to go back and restore at the point before the updates were installed. It got to the point where it just wasn't worth the effort to update in the first place.

Windows Live Essentials is the only one that kept bugging me for an update.
Even though I don't use Windows Live Messenger, I installed the damned thing to keep the update from popping up.
Now I'll go uninstall it and hope it's gone forever.

Are you getting system hardware updates from your PC manufacturer? On my HP laptop, I get quite a few updates from HP for the software that runs the hardware.

have not had time yet!:hammer: have not gotten anymore stupid messages either.

I had automatic updates run yesterday. And since then I have noticed small weird little things. Nothing major, but I'll let you know if I see anything. I use XP btw.

XP here as well Jackie , what kinda weird lil things out of curiosity? If its any thing related to the updates i'll just wait untill next months they will problly have them fixed by then

I use XP and have automatic updates shut off.

While having it on, I notice my computer running extemely slow at various times during the day. I had automatic update set to run at 3am. This was very frustrating until I found the culprit. It was Windows Update. :w00t2:

Even though I had it set to run at 3am, I found that the times my computer bogged down, Windows Update was running in the background. As soon as I disabled it, my computer perked right up.

Now I have automatic update turned completely OFF, and I manually run Windows Update once or twice per week.

Update. I went in to add/remove programs and on the left column used add/remove windows components to dump meesenger so it is not trying to rum in the background. I don't use it and don't need it. I had done this after my last install of XP but for some reason they think I need it. was not on the list of items to download either. That is what I hate about MS. I also get a script error when opening weatherbug a lot of times lately since the update.

Thanks I recon I'll do a manual update & see what all it says I need .

The script error is from certain ads. Not a big deal and weatherbug gives me two local schools so it is the closest weather you can get around here.
