Stun gun question

Embarassed (sp) to ask, but someone asked me and I never had the "proper training" with one (stun gun) so here it is (the question:pat: ).


Have to use a stun gun on someone for whatever reason. You make contact with that person with the "electrodes" and "zap" them. At that same moment, they grab you or someone else as they are being "zapped". Does the other person get "zapped" as well who makes contact with the target (person) of the stun gun?

I'm thinking no (from other experiences that I'd rather not get into:D ), but I don't know this for a fact.

The charge should travel between the two electrodes. It may migrate out a bit but it wouldn't affect anyone else.
 
The "pain" is pretty localized. It doesn't spread too far. Don't ask how I know. ;) All I recommend is that if your target is a large male then make sure you are hitting them in the neck or somewhere sensitive.

I think Tasers(sp?) are higher voltage so that is how they can get away with being less accurate.
 
The tasers usually have darts that are shot out and stick into the victim. They are designed to lodge in separate locations to intensify the shock across a larger area. Then they also have close range electrodes that will centralize the zap.
 
Probably much to nobody's surprise, I've taken a 300,000 volt shot to the ass. The worst part is that it was self inflicted; on purpose. I seemed to be able to disable my BIL with it, but I could always still take it away from him when he whacked me in the ass with it.

Sure, it pretty well knocks the fire out of you, but I've experienced much worse. You'll be okay if you use it knowing that it is a deterrent and not a disabling device. You can make me stop what I'm doing with one, but don't plan on having me a drooling blob in the floor. Granted, I've never gotten it in the neck or nuts, so that just may disable someone for a while.

Just be careful with one if you have to use it. With the ones available for civilian use (I think 300,000 volts is the max), you may just really piss off a guy enough to really get yourself hurt. I would hit someone with one as long as I could keep it on them, and then run. The 300,000 volt unit will screw with someone enough that they will not be very adept at chasing you on foot for a few minutes. That may be all you need.

If you get one, go ahead and whack yourself in the ass with it. It's not really all that bad. That way, you'll know what type of deterrent you really have. Be safe.

I would say that even without the voltage, a taser dart into the chotees would really hurt. I also wonder what would happen if the dart hit the jugular vein. We had a demo of a taser from our PD. One of the ambulance guys volunteered to be tased. This guy is about 6'4" and at least 260 lbs. Needless to say it "pacified" him very quickly. See photo below

I'd have to agree with Dargo.. When we were younger and dumber.......We used a 150kv for a party favor, to find out who was gonna drink the "good stuff"... We passed it arround and did ourselves.. I recomend the arm, if you were to shock your inner forearm arm, you'd notice that you have no control over it. You'r wrist will curl up with a balled up fist, but thats about it.... I kind of like the sensation:pat: , I have just become a little leary of repeating the game as I get older...The thought of heart irregulatities bug me a bit. So I would hesitate a bit before recomending that you do it yourself... If you wanted to use it for protection, I dont think you'll get much done unless you go for the chest or neck(though the head isnt very effective).. It will make you loose control while its being applied, but the guy will regain composure prety quickly,be prepared to run or kick his ass while he's down....:D
 
I think what we have learned from this thead is that we should not attend holiday parties, where alcohol is served, at either Dargo or HGM's homes.
