Stucco septic cover

nefarious

New member
First to be clear I am little experience with any masonary. I have a situation I want to change and came up with this idea. I really just want to know if I am on the right track or if I should find another way to solve the issue. Thanks in advance.

I have 5 green septic tank covers in the back of my house that I want to cover in a way that they look better and I can put something on.

The idea is to cut out a piece of 3/4 plywood big enough to cover the green plastic cover. Then apply a stucco covering after I put down the proper paper and wire. I don't know how thick the stucco would need to be and if it would be structurally sound. It only needs to be moved every three years or so, when I remember on time, and most of the time it will be just sitting on the green cover. There will not be a lot of weight placed on it.

Is this even reasonable? Is there a place I can find reference material to understand minimum thickness?

I don't see why it would not work. I have a green cover over one of my septic tanks too.

I thought about just mounding dirt over the thing. My other septic cover is completely buried, I know where it is, there is a couple inches of dirt over the top of it. Seems like just covering it up would be easier than stucco. Also, not sure stucco will last very long.

It has to be accesses every three years and I want to create some landscaping there. I don't know how long the stucco will last, it's on my house for over 30 years? Is it a thickness issue?

How about the plywood covered on all sides with some polyester or fiberglass resin and thin fiberglass woven cloth? Will be strong and last a very long time

Are you concerned that the plywood would rot out in a few years?
I thought about painting the plywood in a paraffin wax solution. Then cover that with tar paper. I know the stucco is porous, maybe I paint the plywood with a better waterproofing material.

If it lasts 10 years I'm happy and too old to be an issue.

That's an idea. Will look into it. Thanks
This is how I make new battery shelfs and other mounts that used to be straight marine plywood in my boat. If you do a hole through it, you need to drill bigger and coat the sides of the hole to seal the wood off.

How big are your lids?

Can you just put pavers on top of the lid? Something like these but they come in different styles and colors.

The lids are 26" in diameter. Blocks would be way too big and heavy to expect the the service people to move them. I thought of using 4 smaller blocks but the ordeal of putting them back on for 4 lids would be too much.

Just a thought.
They're about 40 pounds for a 24x24 so they're pretty easy to move.
