Steering in reverse is whimpy compared to going forward. History: new machine to me and my first....still learning. Removed the differential, repaired a backwards-installed carrier assembly, both brake shoes had about 5/16" of material but one was obviously a different composition than the other. Machine has not been ran for 7 years.
Adjusted the linkages to the levers on top of the diff. Turning left is OK in forward gear, but in reverse is barely minimal all. This is with adjustment leaving maybe 1/2" throw at the top of the actuating arm...tighter than I want but necessary to get turning in forward gears. Turning right is no issue forward or reverse (though reverse is less pronounced), with a good 1" of throw at the actuating lever on the diff. case.
So, maybe I have a contaminated left brake shoe or something. Brand new oil put in today, NAPA 85-405 hydraulic transmission juice.
NOTE that all this is on HARD ASPHALT.
General question: Regardless, is it normal for reverse to be less responsive?
