I'm sure this is the extreme, but I thought it worth sharing. It points out again, that something needs done to alleviate this worsening situation.

That is not completely accurate, and it is not from the LA Times. There is an email that has been circulating the nation for a couple of years, and there are variations on the email but the most often credited source is the LA Times, supposedly being claimed it was published in 2002.

I've gotten various versions of the email over the past few years.

There is plenty of truth and half-truth to the information. Below is what SNOPES says:

Variations: Some versions attribute the statistics presented to a "retired San Diego police officer."

Origins: The various figures quoted above were not taken from a 2002 Los Angeles Times article. They appear to have been gleaned from a variety of sources and vary in accuracy as noted below:

Over 2/3's of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers.
The California Vital Records Department of the Department of Health Services classified as "Hispanic" the race/ethnicity of 62.7% of all births occurring in Los Angeles county in 2001. The statistic quoted above therefore erroneously characterizes all parents of Hispanic heritage in Los Angeles County in 2001 as being "illegal alien Mexicans on [FONT=Trebuchet MS,Bookman Old Style,Arial]Medi-Cal."

The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.
In April 2005, Heather Mac Donald, a Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research, testified before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security, and Claims. On the issue of gang membership among illegal immigrants, she said: No one knows for certain the percentage of illegals in gangs, thanks in large part to sanctuary laws themselves. But various estimates exist:

A confidential California Department of Justice study reported in 1995 that 60 percent of the 20,000-strong 18th Street Gang in southern California is illegal; police officers say the proportion is actually much greater. The bloody gang collaborates with the Mexican Mafia, the dominant force in California prisons, on complex drug-distribution schemes, extortion, and drive-by assassinations. It commits an assault or robbery every day in L.A. County. The gang has grown dramatically over the last two decades by recruiting recently arrived youngsters, most of them illegal, from Central America and Mexico.
Note, however, that this statement references a California Department of Justice study (not an FBI report), and that it describes only a single gang in Los Angeles County (the 18th Street Gang), the gang that likely has the highest membership rate of illegal aliens.

95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.
This figure also appears (unsourced) in Heather Mac Donald's testimony before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security, and Claims: In Los Angeles, 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide in the first half of 2004 (which totaled 1,200 to 1,500) targeted illegal aliens. Up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) were for illegal aliens.
Even if the statistic is accurate, however, it is subject to a variety of interpretations. For example, illegal aliens might be disproportionately represented by outstanding homicide warrants in Los Angeles because they are more likely to flee the jurisdiction before their cases are adjudicated than legal residents are (not necessarily because they commit a far greater share of the homicides in Los Angeles). This interpretation is supported by a University of California Davis summary of immigration issues that notes: The Los Angeles Police Department has a 12-year old Foreign Prosecution Unit that pursues suspects who fled the US after committing crimes in Los Angeles and gives testimony when they are prosecuted aboard. The United States does not have extradition treaties with most Latin American countries but many countries, for example, Mexico, Nicaragua or El Salvador try suspects for murder and other violent crimes committed in the US.

The Foreign Prosecution Unit was founded in 1985, after a study found that nearly half of the LAPD's outstanding arrest warrants involved Mexican nationals who were presumed to have fled the country. The FPU works with Interpol to find suspects who flee abroad and then prepares the evidence so that the person can be arrested and prosecuted. The FPU clears about one-third of its cases, compared to two-thirds of all homicide cases in Los Angeles.

The Mexican consulate in Los Angeles has a representative of the Mexican attorney general's office to work with the FPU in prosecuting suspects in Mexico for crimes committed in Los Angeles.
75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.
The Los Angeles Police Department's "Most Wanted" list is viewable on-line, but since each entry generally includes only the ethnicity of a suspect (not his or her immigration status or nationality), and many of the entries refer to persons of unknown identity, it's difficult to verify the claim that 75% of the people listed therein are illegal aliens.

Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.
Again, this figure appears to correspond with Heather Mac Donald's testimony before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security, and Claims: The L.A. County Sheriff reported in 2000 that 23% of inmates in county jails were deportable, according to the New York Times.
Note, however, that the 23% figure cited includes all deportable aliens, not just Mexican nationals.

21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking.
The number of Spanish-language radio stations in Los Angeles varies a bit from source to source (and according to how one defines "Los Angeles"), but according to Los Angeles Almanac, if both AM and FM stations are counted, and all programming formats (e.g., music, news, talk, religion, sports) are included, then it's fair to say that there are about 20 "Spanish speaking" radio stations in Los Angeles.

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops but 29% are on welfare
Although illegal aliens are not generally eligible to collect public welfare benefits, an illegal alien may receive benefits under the Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) and Food Stamps programs on behalf of his or her U.S. citizen child. (Any child born in the United States is considered a U.S. citizen, regardless of the parents' immigration status.) A 1997 General Accounting Office (GAO) report determined that it 1995 households headed by illegal aliens received a total of $700 million in AFDC benefits and $430 million in Food Stamps.

Over 70% of the United States annual population growth (and over 90% of California, Florida, and New York) results from immigration.
As the Sacramento Bee recently reported, the "over 90%" figure for population growth in California is essentially accurate if the term "immigration" is defined to encompass both foreign immigrants and births to immigrant mothers: When Department of Finance numbers are merged with Census Bureau numbers and birth and death data collected by the state Department of Health Services are added to the mix, showing that half of all births are to immigrant mothers, the inescapable conclusion is that foreign immigration and births to immigrant mothers together comprise all of the state's net population growth. Or, to put it another way, without foreign immigration, California would have virtually zero population growth.
The cost of illegal immigration to the American taxpayer in 1997 was a NET (after subtracting taxes immigrants pay) $70 BILLION a year, [Professor Donald Huddle, Rice University].
It is true that Rice University economist Donald Huddle has conducted studies and concluded that immigrants (both legal and illegal) in the U.S. receive billions of dollars more in social services from local, state and federal governments than they contribute in revenue. It's also true that others have criticized his studies as flawed and arrived at exactly the opposite conclusion (i.e., that immigrants actually produce a net revenue surplus). For example, a University of California Davis Migration News article on "Illegal Immigration: Numbers, Benefits, and Costs in California" notes: There is a great deal of disagreement over the costs and benefits of immigrants to the US and California. Studies in the early 1980s in Texas and New York concluded that the taxes paid by immigrants exceeded the cost of providing public services to them, but that the federal government got the surplus of taxes over expenditures, and local governments had deficits. Los Angeles did a study in 1992 that reinforced this conclusion.

Donald Huddle of Rice University set the benchmark for today's debate with a study that concluded that the legal and illegal immigrants who arrived since 1970 cost the US $42.5 billion in 1992, and $18.1 billion in California. According to Huddle, 7.2 million immigrants arrived legally and illegally in California since 1970, and the state incurred costs of $23 billion to provide them with services--half of the costs were for education and health care, and one-sixth were due to the costs of providing services to US residents displaced by these immigrants.

As with all such studies, Huddle made assumptions about how many illegal aliens there are, their usage of welfare and other public services, the taxes they paid, and their indirect economic impacts. Jeff Passel of the Urban Institute reviewed and revised Huddle's US estimates, and his calculations turned the $42 billion net cost into a $29 billion net benefit.

Most of the $70 billion difference between these studies arises from their estimates of the taxes paid by immigrants--Huddle assumes that post-1970 immigrants paid $20 billion in taxes to all levels of government, and Passel assumes they paid $70 billion. And the major reason for the difference in tax estimates is that Huddle did not include the 15 percent of each worker's earnings that are paid in Social Security taxes, while Passel did--this accounts for over one-third of the $70 billion difference.

Huddle excluded Social Security taxes because, in his view, contributions today need to be offset by the promise of benefit payments to immigrants when they retire. Passel included them because the federal government treats Social Security on a pay-as-you-go basis.
An article published by the Urban Institute drew similar conclusions: According to the most controversial study of those discussed here, the benefits and costs of immigration to the United States in 1992 add up to a total net cost to all levels of government of $42.5 billion. This study, by Donald Huddle, was sponsored by the Carrying Capacity Network, a nonprofit group that advocates major reductions in immigration to the United States. "The Costs of Immigration" (Huddle 1993) uses estimation procedures that include a variety of errors. When these errors are corrected, the post-1970 immigrants in Huddle's study actually show a surplus of revenues over social service costs of at least $25 billion

When they had there Illegal March last week sometime my brother (who lives in LA) couldnt believe he got to work in 15 minutes instead of the usual 1 hour do to traffic. SO how many illegals are driving? ALOT How many of them pay for insurance? NONE. They dont even have drivers licenses.

Also they are the most discrimnating bunch of leaches on our society. My brother is always discriminated upon buy these Mexicans. He is white so I guess that makes him the minority now. America is doomed people! These Illegals are sucking the life out of "OUR" Country! Its not even there country and yet they are more privilaged than us. They get free hand outs for food medicane ect ect Hell even housing is almost free!

BOB it seems that those 2002 figures were off by about 20%. I can bet you now those figures are pretty damn close to correct (and thats just what the government reports so increase it by 50% and you may start to get close). From 2002 to now the Hispanic population (Illegal) has exploded! It will only get worse. They are using our own system against us. To point, in Indio I have a friend who is a Sheriff deputy. He was told back in 1995 to stop pulling over so many hispanics. In Indio everyone on the city council and all positions of authoruty are Hispanic. They were voted in. Anyway he was ordered to stop pulling over so many Hispanics. When I was on ride alongs with him we would come up on a car at night with no tail lights. He pulled them over and proceeded to be called a racist (you couldnt even tell what color or race these people were). On other occasions at night we would come up on vehicles with various lights out ect ect and would pull them over. When the car or truck would stop 10 or more people would bail out and run. They would scatter like the coch roaches they are. That was back in 1995. I dont even want to see that area now. Every where they go it turns into a third world type area. It might take awhile but it will go to hell. I have seen it many time in San Jose when I worked for the phone company. A Mexican would become an apratment manager and then proceed to pack every aprtment with 10 or more illegals. These places were designed for a faimly of 4 at the very most. Then in a year that building would look like a Mexican Brothel and bring down the prices on everything around them. The people that live there would get sick of all the increased crime and realizing nothing will get better sell out for whatever they could get. Then some Mexican would buy the unit next door and now the nieghbor hood really starts to go to shit. Graffitti starts to explode and the nieghbor hoods crime rate sky rockets. You couldnt talk to anyone because they all spoke Spanish and little kids would run up to your phone truck to offer to translate. Soon whole ares would be spanish speaking only and you had no choice but to pay these little kids to help you. The phone co. didnt give a shit what the circumstances were they just wanted there jobs completed each day. The worst I ever saw was 20 young men living in a two bedroom duplex. (Thats twenty on one side people) One bathroom and one small kitchen. I counted the little matresses (20) and they were divided by sheets hanging down from ropes stretched across the room and NAILED into the walls. It was like trying to walk through a circus tent. What a friggin JOKE! I AM NOT prejudice. I have family members who are Hispanic and are legally in this country. They feel the exact same way as I do. I see the down fall of our country and am sick of it! If you say any thing to oppose me lets take a trip. I will show you first hand some of these areas. Of course I had the privilage to watch them get run into the third world little countys they are today but can still show you what I am talking about. This is a problem no one has ever talked about. Yah they say we have a large Illegal population. BUT hey are either hiding the truth to us or really dont know what the truth is. I do though. I have seen it. Its a preety damn scary sight too.

I don't know if this is actually true or just another internet hoax, but I will throw it out and let someone else run down the truth of it or not.. Junk....

Received this from a friend. I do not know Tom O'Malley.

Received the following from Tom O'Malley, who was a Director with SouthWest BELL in Mexico City.

Hi.....:
You remember that I spent five years working in Mexico. Perhaps you'd like an account of my experiences there, working as an American immigrant.

I worked under a tourist Visa for three months and could legally renew it for three more months. After that you were working Illegally.

I was technically illegal for three weeks waiting on the FM3 approval. During that six months, our Mexican and US Attorneys were working to secure a permanent work visa called a FM3. It was in addition to my US Passport that I had to show each time I entered and left the country.

Barbara's was the same except hers did not permit her to work.

To apply for the FM3 I needed to submit the following notarized originals (not copies) of the following personal documents:

1. Birth certificate for Barbara and I.
2. Marriage certificate.
3. High school transcripts and proof of graduation.
4. College transcripts for every college I attended and proof of
graduation.
5. Two letters of recommendation from supervisors I had worked for at
least one year.
6. A letter from The ST. Louis Chief of Police indication I had no
arrest record anywhere in the US and no outstanding warrant s and

was "a citizen in good standing."
7. Finally; I had to write a letter about myself that clearly stated why there was no Mexican Citizen with my skills and why my skills were important to the Republic of Mexico. We called it our "I am the greatest person on Earth" letter. It was fun to write.

All of the above were in English that had to be translated into Spanish and be certified as legal translations and our signatures notarized. It produced a folde r about 1.5 inches thick with English on the left side and Spanish on the right.

Once they were completed Barbara and I spent about five hours accompanied by a Mexican Attorney, touring Mexican Government office locations, being photographed and fingerprinted at least three times. We remember at least four locations we were instructed on Mexican tax, labor, housing, and criminal law and that we were required to obey their laws or face the consequences. We could not protest any of the Mexican Government's actions or we would be committing a felony. We paid over four thousand dollars in fees and bribes to complete this process.

When this was done we could legally bring in our household goods that were held by US customs in Laredo Texas. This meant we had rented furniture in Mexico while awaiting our goods. There were extensive fees involved here that the company paid.

We could not buy a home in Mexico under this FM3 Visa &nb sp;and were required to rent at very high rates and under contract and compliance with Mexican law.

Next, we were required to get a Mexican drivers license. This was an amazing process. My company arranged for the Licensing agency to come to our Headquarters location with their photography and finger print equipment and the laminating machine. We showed our US license, were photographed and fingerprinted again and issued the license instantly after paying out a six dollar fee. We did not take a written or driving test and never received instructions on the rules of the road. Our only instruction was never give a policeman your license if stopped and asked. We were instructed to hold it against the inside wind ow away from his grasp. If he got his hands on it you would have to pay ransom to get it back.

We then had to pay and file Mexican income tax annually using the number of our FM3 as our ID number. The companies Mexican accountants did this for us and we just signed what they prepared. It was about twenty legal size pages annually.

The FM 3 was good for three years and renewable for two more after paying more fees.

Leaving the country meant turning in the FM3 and certifying we were leaving no debts behind and no outstanding legal affairs (warrants, tickets or liens) before our household goods were released to customs. It was a real adventure and if any of our Senators or Congressman went through it once they would have a different attitude toward Mexico.

The Mexican Government uses its vast military and police forces to keep its citizens intimidated and compliant. The y never protest at their White house or government offices but do protest daily in front of the United States Embassy. The US embassy looks like a strongly reinforced fortress and during most protests the Mexican Military surround the block with their men standing shoulder to shoulder in full riot gear to protect the Embassy.

These protests are never shown on US or Mexican TV. There is a large public park across the street where they do their protesting. Anything can cause a protest such as proposed law changes in California or Texas.

Please feel free to share this with everyone who thinks we are being hard on illegal immigrants.

Tom

For the record, that is much much worse than what I had to go through for my various US Work Visas.

I've had an L1-B Visa, 3 TN-Nafta Visas, and an H1-B Visa. Then I decided I hadn't had enough and went through the whole marriage based immigration. The TN-Nafta visas were the most stressful as you have to apply for them on-the spot at the border and are subject to the immigration officers discretion. I twice had to leave and re-word letters because they found something in my "greatest person on earth letter".

The funny parts are how they get me tested for Tuberculosis after I had been living in the US for 7 years (ummm kind of late). There was a story on Drudge today about how 50% of the asian immigrants in NY had TB.

Why do they test you for TB but still let you in? In most cases the TB test is done as an after thought.

The US Immigration policy is broken. It is heavily weighted against the skilled and honest immigrants and seems to favor the illegal and unskilled immigrant to the point of pandering to them.

Our Immigration laws are a complete joke! So is our Border Patrol. We need a wall across the entire US and Mexican border. Anyone that wants a job to learn a skill in Concrete, Iron working (rebar) Carpentry (forms ect) and electrical work (lighting and other electrical needs) can get a job. That sounds socailist but its not. The governemnt needs to build this wall for National Security reasons. It can be built and it needs to be built! Deport every illegal alien (pass a law making it a felony with instant deportation) Use tht money we just saved (Billions a year on illegal health care and Wellfare) and use that money to fund this wall project. Form a type of military work force (no weapons just other tools) and start to build!

Another thing that needs to be changed is this law. The birth of an illegal alien in america makes the baby a citizen. That is bullshit. An illegal alien and their newborn child has no right to any citizenship in America. Ship the bastards back to where they came from. If they want to come back, they can do it the legal way. This countries politicians and our president has their heads stuck up their asses on immigration laws. I wish these friggin jerks would just do their jobs and stand behind the laws in place. They are all nothing more than a bunch of nose sniffling, vote seeking, cck sucking a-holes.

Murph, I think he is someone who comes here and assumes that a post like that will start arguements or problems and then he can sit back and watch fireworks. The problem with his theory is that we actually act like adults on this forum.

Bob,

I was thinking it was someone going from forum to forum just to get his views across. It didn't work though.:D

Although Snowcat's post would sound just a tad politically incorrect to some people I have to say I agree with him. A few months back I read a Pat Buchanan book called "Death of the West" which details a lot of the same things Snowcat is talking about. The problem is that the existing citizens of the Western countries, US and Europe, have a declining birth rate. This stuff has been in the news quite a bit - how whites will no longer make up the majority ethnic group in this country soon. This is from their declining birthrate. It is more complicated than that though - if you talk to many child bearing age middle class people they put off having children until their careers are in order , they have bought a house, etc. With the cost of living in this country in general that can mean that couples put off having kids into their 30's in many cases - the stats bear this out. What happens to women's fertility in their 30's? - it goes down quite a bit. Which means by the time couples may be ready to have kids they cant. Part of this problems is biology and part of it is societal and attitude. White middle class people in my experience tend to think that they have to have all these things in place in order to have kids - and they have to send the kids to good schools and all that stuff. Part of the "societal" piece is the welfare society that we have built up. Now all of those goverment benefits are being taken advantage of by the illegal immigrants who come into the country - live 20 to a room, and don't have the same kinds of hangups about having children that we do. So what happens? Simple - whites as an ethnic group go down in numbers and immigrants go up. In the end what we are doing is funding our own demise thru the massive amounts of taxes that we send off to our local, state and federal goverments because I think something like 50% of the average workers earnings go off to taxes at some point or another. Why do we have to have so many working women these days? Think of it this way - if the tax burden was lower (like it used to be in the 'old' days) you would not have to have a working man and women in a couple - one of them could probably stay home or at the least work less hours - this would most likely translate directly into more children among people of child bearing age.

This problem can be traced directly back to the amount of taxation that our goverment imposes on us. Those tax dollars go to all of the goverment subsidized benefits the previous posters have mentioned, they need to be paid for so they impose a higher burden on working middle class people, and they cut into the ability of couples of child bearing age to have children. Oh yeah - and that same goverment is the one that comes up with all sorts of bullshit excuses as to why they cannot just build a wall across the border and stop the influx. There are people out there who believe that this whole scenario is done on purpose by the goverment as a way to consolidate more power in it's hands and give it the reasons to have even more tax dollars pass thru its coffers in the end. I am not totally convinced of that yet but without some sort of concrete goverment action to fix the immigration problem I might start to believe that theory.

This email came from a friend of mine in Kalifornia. I do not know if it is fact.

Hello everyone!
I thought you'd be interested in some of these facts and figures I
got today. It appears that the Immigration March in Los Angeles was a
success! According to data from the Los Angeles County Sheriff, as a direct
result of the illegal immigrants getting together to demonstrate and march,
Los Angeles experienced the following:

82% reduction - auto theft
28% reduction - murders/ violent crimes/ rapes
73% reduction - vandalism / tagging
54% reduction - drug related offenses (not including the immediate area
where the marcher walked and "rested")
31% reduction - domestic violence cases
64% reduction - misdeameanor cases (shop lifting, muggings, petty theft,
etc)

California Highway Patrol reported that today was a record low in the least
amount of traffic accidents on South CA freeways.

And all this wonderful stuff happened after only one day of illegals
marching! Looks like the immigration rally was well worth it. Maybe we can
do this one again - and have them march all the way into Mexico. Sure saves
the State of California a chunk of money and lots of good people were saved
a lot of pain!

Very interesting information. All the more reason to send them all back along with their so called legal US citizen children. Since they are illegals, the children should also be illegals.
