So I have a student named Lauren, 18, former multi-sport athlete in high school. She graduated high school but not attending college. Works in the family business and some side jobs.
I taught her Saber and she qualified for the Junior Olympics.
A few weeks ago I introduced her to a friend of mine who is a former Olympian, now a coach.
She runs, shoots pistol competitions, swims and trains horses for show jumping. And fences Saber.
Modern Pentathlon is running, shooting, swimming and Epee fencing (a different type of fencing) and is transitioning from horse show jumping to an obstacle course.
She is going to start training for the 2028 Olympics. I took her for her first lesson with him last night for Epee fencing. She is still doing Saber fencing until mid-February because she will compete in the Junior Olympics. But after the JO's are completed, she will switch to Epee and dedicate her training to that weapon. While he is coaching her, he will be coaching me on how to coach her at the various events, he has competed in the Pentathlon many times. I have worked out an agreement with him to start coaching, on a part time basis at my club, which will likely start in March or April.
In the mean time, I'm going to be meeting with an Olympic Pentathlon judge, who has worked several of the most recent Olympic games, to get more information on what she (and I) need to do.
No clue if she can qualify, but she has the basics, and will be getting some expert training.
First event sometime this fall???
