st4 snow deflector material

Did the original snowtrac deflectors use unreinforced rubber.
I went to look at some material to make some they basically had three types, plain unreinforced, cloth woven ( not as much cloth as conveyor material, and conveyor belting with the nylon reinforcment.
Does it matter what I use? I was thinking 1/8 inch thick but not sure on the material strength. Of course price is important but I don't want it ripping. Any ideas would help

I saw a pair made out of truck mudflaps that seemed to work very well

I have some 1/2 inch conveyor belting, would that work? It is heavy and pretty rigid.
