Sprocket refurshing vs new???

This has probably been discussed before but I can't find any threads on it. What are the pro's and cons of getting sprockets refurbished? How long do the refurbished ones last? What is the cost vs new? Where's the best place to get this done?

We've got three spares that could use some TLC right now.

I think Boggie (Forum member) has posted examples of sprockets he's got available (I believe they were rebuilt, but might have been new).

From my experience the cost is about 50% of new. Quality wise, the ones I bought from Okoner's in Denver appear to be very good. Most of the major re builders that are doing sprockets should have the experience to put a quality sprocket back together. You may want to ask Boggie as he has the most experience with rebuilding as to the pros and cons. Lametrac sprockets may be harder to get rebuild as they are newer machines. Just compare new cost to rebuild and pick what you believe to be the best for your situation.

If I recall correctly, we had gotten two new sprockets right from Lamtrac for around $800 for two. That would be around $400 a peice. If I can get them brand new for that price, is it worth it for me to be looking at recoated ones?

I would have to think that would be the cost of rebuilt sprockets not new. As I recall I paid about that for two rebuilt LMC 1200 sprockets with no exchange. If you can get new for that, do it quick and don't look back to long....:thumb:

If we were to build molds for that sprocket which we do not have now would cost us about 1000.00 time and materials. and then if we were to pour them
they would be about 350.00 if you can buy them for 400.00 I agree buy them.

I would like to build a mold for the 601 sprocket does anyone have a new one they can loan out. :thumb:

Boggie , Do you have a mold to do the 4T2 sprockets???

Sorry we don't have that one. but if at some time someone on any off the sprockets out there wants to place a order for 12 or more we will look at building the molds some of these you only get a order of 2 per year unless it is the more common then we might sell like 40 of those. we would need a new sprocket to do the molds.:thumb:

Boggie, I have a 1200 sprocket that will probably fit the late Thiokol to late model LMC if you need a sample.
