spark problem with 24v snow trac st4

My snow trac st4 24v has an annoying habbit of losing its spark and stopping once it gets hot, its runs fine when you are driving for say 20 mins then if its left to idle it will stop then will not start until it has cooled right down, when this last happened I removed a spark plug and there was no spark, I presume this is some sort of ignition fault? Just wondering if anyone has come across this? As I would like to get to the bottom of it before winter arrives!! any help would be apprieciated.

sounds like a coil you will need a test light to diagnose this and a spark gap tester or a steady hand when it dies remove the coil wire from the dist cap and attach to your spark gap tester properly ground it and crank engine good spark check cap rotor and plug wires no spark use a test light and ck for battery voltage at the coil + termanal if you have power touch probe to - termanal while cranking you should see a flashing signal if you have no signal ck to see the points are not grounded if points and condenser work coil is bad if you have battery power and no flash ck point gap points are not grounding or opened too wide f you have a flash signal and no spark or weak spark and points are gapped at .018 than your coil is bad hope this helps all people ut there who need a simple way to check out a point type ignition in the field
