Solar lights?

I'm considering getting some of those outdoor solar lights that are used to light walkways and such.

I've heard all kinds of stories, primarily leaning towards "they're not very good", "don't hold a charge", "only lasted a few months", "not very bright" so I'm reluctant.

Anyone have any good or bad experiences with particular mfgr's?

I've looked at these several times. Pretty much come to the conclusion that most of the 'mass market' products do little more than 'glow' but actually don't illuminate anything. There are some high priced units that seem to produce usable light. As with most anything, you get what you pay for. I have none now.

4 years ago I bought 10 cheapies from Harbor Freight at $ 5.00 each to try them out. My hopes were not too high. I put them out in the spring and take them in before winter. I replaced three last year the rest are still working fine.
Considering what I paid and no power cost I'm happy with them. I use them as wall mounts around the deck.

Solar Lights

Think of them like the lights on a runway. They don't actually illuminate anything adequately, but they do a good job indicating a path.

They sure do mess with the dogs when you first put them out!:yum: The best ones we have were the cheapos from big lots. Still working after being out year round for 2 years now.

That is a great way to explain them !!! I agree . We have about 2 dozen all metal ones and they do not really put out much lite .

I don't like the light that they give off. I have some on my deck that I eventually want to replace. The fixture itself is pretty but I don't like the illumination.

That's a great way to put it. We have some around the pool and along paths. The don't really illuminate a whole lot but if all you want is an "accent light", they work quite well. Ours are coming up on two years old and still working ... except the ones in the yard that I've hit with the mower.

I call them anti toe stubber lights we have a few were their are trip hazards the rest of the area you are on your own.

But i have one of the HF ones with the remote cell on my deck at my cabin it works pretty good for getting your key in the lock to open the door and doesn't drain the rest of my battery system down (solar off grid)
