Donnell (Don) Erickson AKA Snowtrac Nome, DDS was a passenger on Bering Air Flight 445 and was a confirmed fatality. He helped many of us with parts, solutions and general expertise in both Snowtracs and Haggulunds BV-206. His full Obit will be posted in 'gone but not forgotten' as soon as it is available.

Our scene is measurably less today with his loss of expertise.

Rest Easy Don

OMG I just talked to him on the phone a week ago! He was just in Nebraska visiting his dad for Christmas.

He was a real trooper and a good friend.

To say he will be missed is an understatement for me. Unbelievable and very sad. He has a Son that I am worried about.
He is of the age that a father can have a huge impact on a son, and he was doing his best to do right by the young man.

I am at a loss for words at this point.

CT,

Thanks for letting us know.

He was one of the forum regulars when I showed up, and he was always helpful in sharing his vast knowledge and experience. I think he helped a fair number of SnowTrac folks with parts as well. I am truly sorry to hear of his passing.

For those of you who knew him, my impression from some of his posts and photos over the years, is that money was pretty tight in his household. Is there something we as a forum can do to show our appreciation for the man, and the respect we have for him? I think that would be meaningful to his family. I would like to contribute.

Don was a fun guy. Always had a joke at the ready. Just chatted with him of the holiday break, he was down here in *america* visiting family . That was a funny we shared anytime i visited alaska.....

Im going to mis that guy.

I am so Sorry for his Lost
It's Really Sad News

Wow, I just stalked him last week on here to find the last time when he visited was. Crazy. I did up a decal for him years ago when him and BigAl were bantering back and forth about Kristi's.

"This machine is NOT a Kristi! You can NOT burn the tracks to keep warm when you are stuck!"

And very few had more knowledge of the Hagglund's than him. Going to miss that guy.

For those who want to know more about the plane and the deicing system it had. It had the latest system as it was not a very old plane.
It spent nearly the entire flight at an altitude of 8.5K and this is where icing conditions commonly occur.

One has to be a tougher breed of Human to live in Nome. To drag a mile of pipe out on to the very same Norton sound with his ST4 is a daunting task. But Nome needed the fuel and Don made it happen. That kind of puts him in the league of TOGO and BALTO. I am sure the people of Nome will miss him more than the members of the forum.
Nome is a little island out in the middle of nowhere and everybody depends on everyone else there. They just lost a significant player. I will miss the hour long 'chats' by phone with him.
