snowmaster questions?

northeastheavy

New member
Hello!! I am a new owner of ST4B#868. New to the forum also. Glad there is someone out there. I realize the engine is missing the air intake vent and the shield over the muffler. Any ideas on replacements or is it prefab.
Also, has anyone ever seen any fenderless ST4Bs. Mine has no fenders over the tracks, but looks original with no fender holes?? Looked all over and they all seem to have fenders. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey! Welcome to the group ! I am not a Snow Trac guy but someone will be along shortly to answer all your questions .

Watch out for those Snow Trac guys as they can be a shady bunch at times :yum:

Congratulations on your purchase.

I don't know anything about the air intake horns.

Where are you located ?

ok yours is a track master you have the 4 belt track and boggie front suspension and yes i do have a intake scoop but you will have to do like me for the muffler tin and fab up something pm me about the intake i only have one extra now

Congrats, Nice ST4B!
Not sure why it says Snow-Master on it, it should be a 1966 Trac-Master going by the serial number. Do you have any more pix?
I have seen pix of single cabs without fenders before when used as groomers. Does this one have any hydraulics on it?
On the airbox, I can get you dimensions off one if you need to make one.

i would also build up a pipe front bumper to protect the front axle if you ever hit something with the drive sprokets you are going to break a hard to find axle housing after it happened to mine i built up a new bumper out of 2x2 square pipe.

congrates on your purchase....welcome....if you can't find the answer to whatever question you can think of on this forum....you can't find it anywhere...this IS the spot for anything you may need to know on any sno-cat. there is more knowledge on this site than any other i've ever seen....ask away...it will be answered...i'm proud to be a member on here....Bill w

btw the 67 track master is a big weel boggie .
so trackmaster is available in both big and boggi weels .

Thanks greatly!!!! You are of course right about being a trackmaster. I compared the graphics at the site last night and they are close but different!! Now iI know what I have. I definately need a air scoop, so please let me know the cost . Hope I can afford it?? These parts must be hard to come by!!! Had a feeling I would have to prefab the lower shield. Thanks for all the help. This place is great.

That last reply was to DDS, Guess I need to learn to send a pm.
In reply to all your questions, I an in upstate New York. I also thought about this unit being a groomer , but no hydraulics. Did early units have hydraulics. Thought that old might only be drags. Bought it at minnesota outdoors, and they said it came out of the Quebec area of canada. Would also love to see a picture of that one in sweden. Thanks for all the help. Looks like I found a great bunch of snowcat nuts!!! Like that idea on the front bumper. A new one is on the list.

I presume when you say air intake you mean the sheet metal 'scoop' that is mounted on the rear side of the fan shroud? If so that is a simple sheet of folded sheet metal. If yours is missing it should be replaced. If I recall correctly it is only held on by 2 screws. It would probably be easier to have one made up by a local heating/AC contractor or someone who bends sheet metal than to find one. I would think the cost would be very modest. There is a rubber gasket that fits around the top lip, I think any automotive gasket would probably work from any of the auto supply stores or mail order outfits.

I'm going out to play in the snow later today, I'll try to snap some photos for you.

As for the lower heat shield, again that should be replaced, and again that is a simple piece of metal that should be easy to have cut and bent.

I also thought about this unit being a groomer , but no hydraulics. Did early units have hydraulics.
I know some of the Trac Master/Snow Master units had hydraulics but not sure when the hydraulics were added to the option list. I'd guess that early models did not have them as an option but that is just a guess.

I have quite a few pictures of that machine. The one I posted earlier is #868.
Sorry, I haven't a better picture of the lack of the air intake housing.

I can't believe you all have pictures of my machine!!!!! You guys are good!! Pixie, Please tell me what you know about my machine, especially as you are in N.H.!!! Those photos are super!!!!

It was purchased just north of Quebec City. The man had owned it 25 years and it had mostly been stored under cover. He bought it because someone bet him that he couldn't drive across a swampy place . He won the bet !! I think he said that a small ski area owned it before him but I don't remember for sure as he didn't speak English and I had to rely on a translator.

I picked it up in April '09 and took it to MN in May.

The outdoors picture is at my campsite in MN.

Thanks Pixie for the history and photos!! Great to know. I hate to ask but, did you have any problems with it?? Looks like nothing has changed from when you bought it in canada.

I never drove it except to get it off my trailer at MN Outdoors. It just sat on the trailer for the 4 weeks between when I picked it up and when I delivered it.

It seems like a good machine. I hope you enjoy it

Okee dokee, just in from a nice little trip through the farm and the "wilds" of northwest Indiana. Took my camera so I could snap you some photos of the air intake. No way to get good photos of the 'scoop' while it is mounted so I took it off and shot the photos so you could better see the shape.

Only two bolts are used to hold it in place, they actually run all the way through the fan guard and one side of the scoop.

Hope this helps!

Thanks a million on all the info and photos. Great to know where the unit came from.

The air scoop photo are great. Thanks. If I need to prebab, the hole size and vent size can determined on the snowcat. Now I got the shape that will fit!!! Thanks again.

If you need it I could probably take some measurements for you, but I suspect that you could do that pretty easily by just sticking a tape measure down there. I doubt that there is any reason to believe it needs to be an exact fit. Close enough is probably good enough.

I don't know if any of these will help as I am not a Snot Trac owner but pretended to be one in a movie once . Heres a few pictures I took of a friends before it headed to Alaska .

PS : I told you these guys were good ! shady bunch still .....but good !

My number is #868!!! Looks like they made a few identical without fenders. Yours is identical to mine. The old decal on the side does look like snowmaster like mine, not trac-master???????? That does not seem right. How is the roof hatch??? Mine is a bit altered and in bad shape. Now we know of 3 fenderless st4b's. Thanks for the photos.

Here are some pics of the hatch..........it is the only hatch I have seen like this, it appears to be factory but I dont know........do you have pictures of your hatch???
