Snowcats on ksl.com

Blackfoot Tucker

I look at ksl.com fairly frequently for used snowcat offerings. This morning there was a used Tucker, which I haven’t seen for a long time. And there were two Thiokols and a Prinoth that made me want to vomit. Yes, they are hideous shades of green. Why?

The Tucker is a 1984 1642, but it’s the C model body style with the wider cab. It was a groomer, which gives me pause, but based on the numerous recovered idler wheels and drive sprockets, they put money in to maintaining it. There is a photo of the hour meter, but in my opinion, the hours shown are questionable when considering all those replaced idler wheels and drive sprockets. The listing has almost no information and it doesn’t say, but I think it’s Diesel powered. That might be a Cummins V-378, or its turbocharged sibling the VT-378. Those engines have less than a sterling reputation.

One of the Thiokols, a 1962 4T4 seems reasonable at first glance. However the stock drive train has been replaced with a non-stock system and the seller disclosed finding parts to repair it is a problem.

The other Thiokol looks to be a 404 model Imp with a full cab. Green exterior and yellow interior? Bleccchhh!
