HI You all,:tiphat:
Ok Listen up !!!
To all you Snow Cat owners and even you non-Snow cat owners .

Some of us have been talking for over a year now on getting together for a 2 , 3 or 4 day snow cat meet . I have volunteered my ranch in Idaho Wilderness as a staging area and also a place to stay while we tie one on ,"Family Style". I will be building a big heated barn(40 x 60 ) this summer .I am thinking about Jan/feb/Mar 2008 for this . I offer to you all ,a place to stay in your motor home ,camper ,or to throw down a sleeping bag in the barn . It will have the modern conveniences ( No outhouse ) . I also have a couple extra bedrooms in the ranch house ,but they have already been grabbed .
This will be a family event and the kids are welcome . Fun and games will be provided . I am a overgrown kid myself . Here is what I am planning :

1.
Thursday is arrival /get acquainted day and set up house keeping or grab a sleeping spot . Also a chance to check out are little town of about 200 people . I guarantee you the best Biscuits and Gravy you ever had is at the little local C&V café. Service is a little slow but the wait is worth it . The ham steak breakfast is HUGE!!! Burgers are famous too. Bring a big appetite if you plan to eat here .They are open from 7-8 everyday .We have gas and diesel available in town, too .We also have a nice little "Western Family" market in town if you need supplies. The Reno Bar & Grill makes a Pizza that will knock your socks off . Maybe do a little afternoon sightseeing with the cats out the back toward Selway Falls .

2 .
Thursday night can be a open bar , potluck dinner , kick the tracks on the various snowcats , and sit on the deck watching Elk*and making up really good lies .

3.
Friday Morning we do breakfast in the barn and then trailer the cats to our appointed play area . We have hundreds of miles of roads ,but one area I like is the Montana/Madruder Cross Road which is "a 100 miles straight through the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness area" to Darby Montana . We certainly will not be going a 100 miles, but there are lots of beautiful areas for picture taking and enjoying ourselves . This is about 25 miles from my Ranch to the take off location . We will need to take our swim suits so we can enjoy the Red River Hot Springs which is just down the road a little bit. The kids will love this . Here’s some infor on the “Red River Hot Springs “:

One of Mother Nature’s natural wonders provides a relaxing experience at Red River Hot Springs. Twenty-five miles from the town of Elk City, a large warm swimming pool, hot tub and private soaking tubs offer visitors the pleasure of hot mineral waters.
This mountain resort is open year-round. It is built around mineral springs. The Native Americans believed these springs produced powerful healing waters. The mineral water comes out of the hills at 130 degrees, with 16 different minerals and is missing the strong sulfur smell usually present in natural hot springs.
The resort is privately owned, but the hot springs and the surrounding wilderness are protected by the U.S. Forest Service.

4.
Saturday is another breakfast at the Barn . Women serve the men ! And then if off for more play time .
Saturday night will find us back at the ranch for a old fashion Bar-B-Q and barn dance .
Some may even want to forgo this and stay at the hot springs since they have 4 or 5 little cabins . They also have a big dormitory upstairs that sleeps about 20 people . Reminder: The restaurant burned down a number of years ago so bring your own Food and Drinks ,if you decide to do this .

5.
Sunday starts at 7AM with a Pancakes /eggs/ bacon and sausage breakfast made by the men and served to their ladies in the barn . We then can head out and explore another area with the cats and have a few snowcat driving contest with goofy prizes awarded . Sunday late afternoon is open time to relax and for getting ready to head home .
You know what they say “Guest and Fish start to go bad after about a week “!!!

Note : Their will be a couple simple rules
1 . You get drunk , and start making a ass out of yourself , you go to bed
2*. You harass my Elk*, I will whip your butt and you still go to bed .
3. You come to have a good time and enjoy yourself or you go to bed .
4 . This is to be a family event . If you come just to drink and then try to drive , you go to bed . In Fact , if #4 sounds like you ,you just might want to stay home .
5. Reread #2

So hears a little information on the Hot Springs . Last time I check it was $6 for all day at the hot springs and you can come and go as often as you like . I think it is less for kids . I will work and see if I can get a better rate for us . I am not sure what the Hot Springs Cabins rent for, but I can find out if you want .

Now none of this is locked in concrete and I am sure we may change some stuff along the way as we plan it out .

What I do need is a idea of how many “ think” they may be able to come. How many are bringing there own cat and how many plan to ride with someone else . If you are bringing Snow Mobiles I need to know that too .

This will give me a idea of amount of food/drinks needed for people coming etc. Let me know how many in your group .

I also plan to go to the town peers and see what they can do to make it a more fun adventure for you all . I also need to go to foresty and get permission to special use some areas .

There is a small motel in Town so if you want more private sleeping .
arrangements ,they are available .

One last thing …. I ain’t your Mama and I don’t plan to pick up after you and your garbage. "Leave it and respect it like you found it" . Otherwise …
!GO TO BED !

Here’s our towns website , so you will have a better idea what you will be missing ,if you don't come .

OH!!! and one more thing . If you don’t show up , us that do, plan to talk bad about you !!

2 of us with Bells on. Well the wife and I for sure 1. snow cat 2.snowmobiles 1. camper 2. friendly dogs on leashes if they are okay? Great talking to you BigAl, Hope we meet again soon. Mike

You have a lot of snowmobile trails in the area also. I may have to come another time just to ride snowmobile. Mike

Wow Al,

Sounds great!! I'll definately take you up on that.

Bringing the kids could be an issue as we'd have to do some real planning to sync it up with one of their winter school breaks. If it works - great - if not then I'll be there solo.

I don't know if I can wait a year.

Your welcome anytime Mike to come up and try the trails out .
Your dogs may be a issue as the Elk are within a rocks throw of the house alot .How do they do around animals , Elk, Deer and turkeys We keep our dogs lock in the kennel when there are Elk/deer out front . Right after we moved there the sheriff stopped by, introduced himself and let us know that if our dogs were seen harrassing Elk or livestock, he would shoot them on the spot . He wasn't kidding and carries a high powered rifle in the truck ,just for that . The dog population went down 6 dogs this year in our little town .

Thats fine then . Just wanted you to know up front .I was surprized when the sheriff told me that ,but I guess he makes a point of letting all the new land owners know .

Well ,
We got a little snow at the old ranch in Idaho . The neighbor snapped these pictures of my place and sent them to me this morning . I thought I would share them with next years "snow cat blow out participants" that is planned for my place .This year we have been a little light on snow but the higher elevations, around us , are doing pretty well .

Wow, sounds cool.
I can not believe my wife and I did not meet you guys at the shoot out, we were a bit out of it after spending almost the entire night up in the I-80 parking lot mess and then crawling into the back of the van to sleep, woke up to the snowflower staff and Art Seely just a couple hours after we parked in the one little area that had been plowed, wished I had been awake enough to get the cammera out and take a picture as I parked in front of the Tucker 2000 and it looked like the trailor it was on was hooked to our awd express van.
Anyway,if you will have us strangers we would love to come, not sure what we would bring, maibe the Tucker cool bus, snowmobiles,or????

It would be a pleasure to have you come :applause: . I am going to work real hard to pull off a really good time for everyone . I should know much more when I return home in about 2 weeks . We are going back up for a little vacation while my sister watches over Pop for us . This trip is to turn loose the lumber order for the new Barn/Shop/Apartment combo . I'll talk with the local VFW and see if they want to put on a little "Pancake Breaskfast" for us . They are always looking for ways to make a few dollars . The barn dance I plan on having will include the local nieghbors . That way we can kick up our heels and not worry about too much noise .

I am completely open to ideas so let me know if you have done something at other snow meets that you really enjoyed . The nearest Airport is Lewiston Id. which is 125 miles away . It handles commuter planes out of Seattle or Boise If someone wants to fly in and ride , I'll pick you up .Or they do have rental cars .

Well there is alway Elk City International strip on the hill with the dog leg in it, do they plow it in the winter?

You can check out or strip here at

Looking forward to the meet!

Good Question ??? I honestly do not know. The little airport sits right above town . I was a private pilot and I know I would not want to land there . First dog leg I ever saw in a runway . I landed on one that the last 300 feet went up a hill . That was interesting .
It is used a lot my pilots in the summer who come up for the Biscuts & Gravy or the "Ham steak" breaskfast at Carols & Vals Cafe .

It is really not too bad a strip. My wife and I will be droping in this summer for the Biscuts & Gravy or the "Ham steak" breaskfast at Carols & Vals Cafe and checking on the barn project and feel confident that since there is no hydraulics involved in the barn it will work beautifully upon completion.

:yum: Thats mean ! True,,, but still mean . Call when your coming and we will pick you up :17875: . Your actually are on "Final", right over the ranch .

OK people we are still on for a Forums Forums Snowcat festival. Not sure when BigAl will have everything done if he can by then but we can still meet and stay in town. Looks like sometime in January! After the festival we will be having a small expedition to Darby Montana and back.
