snowcat prices?

i have been looking for a spryte now for about a year. i found one that i wish i would have bought, it needed a BUNCH of work but was close by and the price was OK.
these days i see really nice ones in the high 20's to low 30's, and rough ones in the $9k to $12k range. some of them have been for sale for a long time and the price never changes. i can understand the really nice ones holding on to a good price, but the rough ones?
some of the rough ones are really rough, i talked to one guy that had a 2 man cab spryte without a blade, needed body work, track belting, hadnt run in 2 years, and the guy wanted $8K. and it was a 'B' model with old style tracks and manual transmission!
obviously people arent spending like they used to, so why do some sellers refuse to drop their prices down to reality? some of the prices out there are probably fair, but they are not selling. i have things for sale, and the prices are no where near what they would have been 3 or 4 years ago.
so anyone know of a GOOD price on a spryte?

Unfortunately I don't know of a reasonably priced Spryte, but I too have been really surprised at pricing lately.

I'm more familiar with Tuckers, but two recent auctions in Canada blew me away.

This one went for $12,900:

And a 1984 1544 with front 6-way blade went for $19,606 at a Ritchie Brothers auction last week. It just wasn't that nice, (at least I didn't think so).

Last June there were seven Tuckers at auction in Fairbanks, AK that went cheap (by my standards).

What's going on?

Wow!

It's simply the law of supply and demand.Recently SpencerHenry opined that a 1404 ST I had listed hadn't sold because it must not be worth what I was asking.I took 500.00 less than I was asking so I think I made out alright, especially in this economy.I had to list on a few different sights but I finally sold it.Patience helps the seller as well as the buyer.Owners of prime condition Sprytes know the value of their vehicles since they don't make these excellent snow machines anymore. As for snow vehicles out of Alaska, distance to ship to the lower 48 may be a factor as to lower prices. In conclusion, whenever shopping for most things, money talks and we all know what walks.

supply and demand, absolutely. it just seems that there is no rhyme or reason sometimes.
in all my boredom doing different searches, i found an auction. unfortunately the auction was last week. a five man with a blade, widetrack went for about $13k. that would have been one i would have been interested in. but, the ones i find for sale have no blade, funky tracks, and 2 man cabs with asking prices from around $12k and up. i did find a two man with a blade for a decent price, but about 2000 miles from here and it needed work. wish i could find one like that closer.

Supply and demand of the dollar. the value of the dollars is falling fast. Forget gold...stock up on snowcats!

Supply and demand always dictates the price, but with the economy in the toilet for so long, I see that People who have $$$ are buying the nice restored units. The fixeruppers are going cheap or not selling as parts and labor to restore are out of site and no one can afford to take a chance on a money pit. There was a Thiokol 600 series on Ebay ended today and they could not get a bid on at $6500. Had $4k in new tracks and ran and a rough body and not one bid. Probably only worth $5k. Usually these go for over $10k. Just an opinion!!!

I don't know anything about it but I noticed one in spirit lake iowa on craigs list recently.

I'm sure you've probably already seen it.

yes, i saw the one in iowa. it was for sale last spring at the same price, ad says price is not negotiable. $8500 for a narrow track 2 man cab 'B' model with manual trans and old style tracks and high hours seems a bit high to me.
what i am looking for is a passenger cat with a blade, i was dead set on a wide track but now having second thoughts about that. seems all i can find is 2 man cabs, mostly without blades. if i could find a decent shape cat with a blade right now, i might go for it even if it is a narrow track and 2 man cab.
i found one in new york for a decent price, but at 2000 miles away makes it not do-able.

on a separate note, how easy is it to find a blade?

so what do you consider a fair deal? something to consider parts are getting harder to find for these machine and as time goes on prices of used machine will go up as the cheaper ones will be parted out to keep the good ones running

It is interesting that you brought this up. I own and operate a couple more morden cats br 275 plus mp's . I can go 200 mile north or west and find similar machines with the same hours and operating condition, and list prices are $80,000 apart. Just goes to show there is some insanity on the pricing depending who you are selling them to. As usual it pays to do you homework.
