snow-trac or br200????

they did not make alot of the br200 machines, check with dealer in calgary and see if parts are still available, the hydraulic drivetrain in that machine will be the expensive thing to repair, the snowtrac is a simple machine, but no longer made and if you need parts, it will require a little more work to find or have parts made, look for a machine that has been well looked after and run every year, low hour machines that have been parked for years are good finds but being parked and not run causes lots of little problems
 
the snow trac will have a much better ride than the bombi generaly speaking the bombies are made user friendly in the servicing department things like hydraulic track adjustment they are also built strong wich is why they ride like a buldozer the snow trac is light capable and easy to maintain if the frsh air heater system is hooked up right it will keep you warm at -20 i also think cabin noise is higher in the snow trac and the snow trac consumes a lot less fuel i had the choise of the 2 and took the snow trac for the excelent preformnce i the snow also the snow trac will likely have a higher top speed as the 200 is hydrostatic drive usualy 10mph tops
 
now that i have sone some more investigating it might be a sv200 being it is around a 72 or so. just need to wiegh things out. I know people who own vw's are constantly working on them and that is not quite what I want. I am a mechanic so some is ok but not all the time. thanks for any opinions and advice.

VW's are one of the most reliable engines you could own.You just have to treat them with a little respect.If you consider adjusting valves every 50-75 hrs a lot of maint.You should run something from Japan.Once you know how to do valve adjustments they take about 20 min.I have built & run quite a few HP VW's in my day,they bto are very reliable with a little TLC.I'm not just saying this because I still have a snow trac for sale

Any snowcat requires a higher level of maintenance than most other vehicles. Similar to airplanes. The best way to approach a new purchase is to disassemble the unit as much as necessary and replace rubber hoses, belts, wires etc. Make all your adjustments to the engine, trans, and other drive components. Clean, inspect all your wheel bearings and lay your tracks out and repair as necessary. Then they are very reliable.

As far as the difference between a SnowTrac and a SV200, it is basically the difference between a heavy duty station wagon and a 1/2 ton pickup truck. IMO. They both are great at what they were intended for but each are better in specific areas of use. I tend to haul heavy large items like lumber and fuel and like the flat deck. I also like the easier entry and exit of the cab forward over the SnowTrac but that's just me. I also demand a lot more heavy use out of a snowcat than the SnowTrac is designed to handle which outweighs the benefits of light weight and super deep snow capabilities of the SnowTrac. The ford industrial engines, transmissions and the controlled differentials of most two tracks are stout to say the least and are extremely reliable. VWs are too. If it were me I would go with the SV200.:whistling:
