on the VW gearbox/transfer case you fill to the side overflow hole. Does this take care of the variator also? I know about the zerts on top for the bearings but what about the variator lower bevel gear ? Is gear oil supplied from the same fill hole in the transfer case?

yes jim it does and it will take about s quarts more than a vw transmission because of that also watch the seals behind the small sprokets mine got hard and fell apart which lead to my traansmission failing

I was wondering if any one might have a part # for the seals that are behind the drive sprokets
Idon't have time to look it up take a look on my thread about transmission replacement i think it was in april and i posted the skf part numbers there

that's exactly what happened to mine on the last run up north one of them 47 year old seals just shattered you are going to have to remove the transmission to replace them at that time i recomend the waterproofing up grade to the transmission at the same time should be covered in my post
