we had some good weather last night in nome so i took the family out for a short ride out of nome on the tundra and took some photos here is the st-4 project out at dredge 5 my wife was operating thhe camera the 4 year old aka mini-me and the family dogs are in the picture with me snow tracvsdredge5 004.jpg

great pictures! tell us more about dredge 5............ they used similar dredges here at the turn of the century mining boom, the tailing piles left behind are unbelievable
 
The best pic to me was your son on the hood holding the pup. That is a picture that is worth millions. Don't ever lose it. :thumb:
 
there are 3 of these dredges in nome 1 is out by the dot building another by the airport faa housing it was started on fire by some kids and burned down now its just a frame another one on the west end of the airport and 5 is behind town theyre build by yuba iron works and are some of the largest bucket line dredges ever constructed the ladder can dig to about 40 feet and i think each bucket 1,5 yards. i know some were used with mucury these were all gravity seperation with jiggs to clean up the fine marterial there is 1 smaller dredge out side of nome called swanberg its a lot smaller and older another one is still operated by the tweet family at tayler and that one has run since before ww II. I flew over that operation a few years ogo in the black hawk its amazing how mother nature reclames the land
