a few new snow trac owners may not know about "it's a surprise"
I wanted to post this for them.
I hope this helps.
It's a Suprise was the introduction to Part 2. But before we go there, here's the linc's to various of the supporting stories and technical know-how for primarily ST4's with a limited amount of general snow cat 'know-how'. I have Mike of Snowcat Operations to thank for bringing me up to speed on how to post linc's.

So, I'm thinking it should be re-titled "So you want to own a snow trac????"
I'm still thinking I made a good choice in TYPE , but perhaps not a good choice in the actual unit. OH well, 20/20 hind sight.

But without the help of the other users on this forum it would be hopeless.
Thank you all.

This is great. I really like having the snow trac stuff lumped together. It's a long shlog to do a search and wade through all the other posts that come up. I know in my case this site is basically my only source of info on these things and this helps me out a lot.
I'm just now trying to put my track back together after separating the overlapping seam. What a pain in the you know what! Sure glad I'm doing it my driveway vs in the snow up in the Mts somewhere!

Cidertom, if you ever head out west a bit, let me know, always nice to go out with another snow trac. I've been having fun in the Mt Hood, Mt Adams area.

putting the track overlap on is easy. run it over the sprocket then jog the engine. a block of wood wedged will hold the bottom near the boggies.

the trick is to lay a block of wood under the front of the track. I usually use 2 one length wise to support the track at the center and one crossways stuffed under the track to get the track supported at the right ramp angle on the bottom section. I loosen up the varriator belt ,put the trans in low gear, drop the track over the front sprocket ,than have one of the kids bump the starter till the track pulls up tight. at that point I start installing bolts

Once I get the st where I feel confident I do want to get together. It's just taking more time and money...

I printed a bunch of "It's a Surprise" to have as a reference manual. best resource. I just wish I had read it before buying the ST I have.
