Snow Trac Engine Advice

Hi ,I am about to pull the motor out of my 1969 Snow Trac to repair oil and exaust leaks. The 1600cc motor has always ran good but while it is out I am thinking of making some improvements like balancing and more cc
My question is should I go with a crate motor or is the stock block. Does a crate motor have any advantages over the stock block.

if you can pick up a brazilian motor there are some advantages first the newer brazialian motor cases are cast out of a stronger material which makes them more desirable. Go ahead and bump the displacemeny up to 1776 be aware if you replace the old single port engine with a newer dual port motor ,you also have to re fabracate the intake scoop for the dog house style oil cooler which in the longrun helps cooling on #3 cylinder . if you have the bucks the porsch 356 makes a good conversion and will spin 8 k all day long a bug motor will only spin 55k reliably when balanced.to balance the rotating assembly on a bug motor is a good thing it will extend the life of the case if you reuse your case there could be a drop in oil pressure mine runs between 10 and 55 psi warm.

Thanks for the info Don. I have alittle time before I have to make a decision, so I will search around and see what I come up with.
