Snow trac #58025

I have not had much time to use it this winter due to my auto repair shop going up in flames, but I did get it out after Leadville's skijoring event this week end. Skijoring is where people get pulled behind a horse on skis through a course of jumps (some 8-10 ft tall). They also have to try to collect rings from poles all while reaching speeds close to 60mph.

After the weekend event is done...Leadville allows the 4X4 club to go out and play around on the jumps for awhile. I hooked up with them and tested out the capabilities of my rig.

Here are some pics taken with a friend phone. I'm hoping to find someone with some better quality photos and some video.

good to see you are still around have to expect you are buisy trying to get your shop replaced . always good to get your st out and show off i've deen turning heads around here with mine quite a bit too iditarod is about to start and the town will be flooded with out siders too i think it's cool how you seem to draw all the camaras your way just crawling over those piles of snow.

I'm trying to find someone with video of me going over the jump in the last pic. It was pretty scary the first time I went over it. It had a step in the middle of the back side of the jump and the upper section of it was almost straight up and down. All I could see was ski, but it made it. I can not believe what these things will go over.

Whenever I build a motor I use the stock style pushrod tubes. I buy them new so you do not have to deal with getting the length right before installation. Many people use silicone on the seal area when installing to try to get them not to leak, but I feel this just makes it worse. I use a silicone grease on the seals to get them to seat properly...and make sure the sealing surfaces are clean.

You have to pull the head to do these so in your case you may want to go with and expandable tube to make the job much easier. DO NOT buy a plastic tube...spend a little extra money and buy a metal tube from empi or scat. I believe they both make either spring loaded and treaded styles. I have used both styles and if properly installed they will work fine....at least for a while. The spring loaded ones are the easiest as they have a preset tension...many people over tighten the threaded ones which deforms the seal and causes leaks to develop sooner.

update on push rod tubes one of the air carriers i do work for hired on a new mechanic who had r2800 wasp experiance. the only engine that leas worse than the old harley's are radials he suggested using a compound called proe seal on my push rod seals as that is what they use on aircraft engines i will have to cut out the old seals if i ever have too remove the tubes but the beauty of this system is now the tubes are forced to move with expansion of the engine to date not one oil leak.summer and winter running.

I have not done any work to the snow trac since I've got it. I am still trying to recover from the fire back in January. I just purchased land and am still trying to get a building up this year.

I plan on using the snow trac as is this winter and hopefully I will have a shop running next summer so I have a place and tools to start restoring it.
