In the process of building a snow roller. Friend is rolling some plate like he did for the powder maker drum but solid this time.

going 30" by 8'. Question I have is for the end caps. Want them to be larger to keep from slide hilling and for tracking. Thinking it will help during the dirt trips back to the barn also.

Do you think a 1" lip is enough? Meaning 30" roller 32" end cap?

Should I make a scraper for stick snow?

Do I need to add some traction cleats?

On the ones we built out of culverts,we had a 3/8" thick steel disc and were 34" in diameter so they had 2" in the snow to keep them from side slippage. we used to use old,used track belting and bolted them across the culvert. It wasn't so much for traction as it was to break up the grooved pattern the culvert made,seems skiers didnt like the grooves running straight down the hill. Don

How times change...

Now that's called "corduroy" and Deer Valley Ski Area prides itself on it's grooming; striving for perfect corduroy. They are frequent winners of awards for their grooming.
