Snow peas wiped out.

I have about 11 acres planted over in snow peas. This morning I went to check a field and appr 5 acres were hit by the cold. since snow peas can survive below zero temps if they are snowed on or icy, I can only guess that a combo of dry cold and heavy winds caused them to freeze.
As I and 300 discussed otherwhere, this was several hundred dollars worth of seed.
I mostly used it for a cover crop and harvested in spring to get a small cash flow. Between this and the deer I doubt I will manage a 3 acre harvest come spring.

I would agree on the dry cold and wind. The wind with this system hitting the east is going to do a lot of damage.

I will check in tomorrow. Right now just got a call and a methane generator has decided to cause problems. I might manage to get some sleep tonight.

Sorry to hear the bad news.
Farming has got to be the toughest thing to plan on.
After all who knows which way the wind and deer will blow.

Did you folks know its a real adventure(someone else having a sucky time) to change a compressor head in high winds and a temp of abt 14? Moron I built this generator for let his pump shed fall apart and there sat a high pressure compessor exposed to freezing temps and humidity. What made it so bad was the possibility of gas pooling so I couldn't even smoke my pipe for warmth.
The compressor froze up, no surprise and blew a hole in the top of the head. Lucky he at lest had spares. We never did find one of the valves though.
Finally got it running and pumped down his holding tank before it blew off. Fixed a temporary shelter out of an old tarp and some lumber. Told him to get a shed built or it will happen again.

Updte time. I was wrong on the peas, I managed almost 4 acres. Kept half as a seed stock and sold the others. silaged the plants, after drying will grind them as feed additive.
Oh, and hero with the methane generator finally managed to get enough money to pay me. Good thing cause the tractor decided it wanted some TLC(that is code for lots of money).
