Where was the snow when we wanted it? Here I am stranded in Billings Montana and look what is going to happen at home in Wyoming.

Winter Storm Warning

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM MDT THURSDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RIVERTON WY HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM MDT THURSDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES THIS MORNING AND CONTINUE THROUGH THURSDAY. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 3 FEET ARE EXPECTED ALONG THE EAST SLOPES WITH LOCAL AMOUNTS UP TO 4 FEET. :thumb:

TRAVEL MAY BECOME NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE BY LATER TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY. ANYONE PLANNING TRAVEL INTO THE BIG HORNS SHOULD BE AWARE THAT THIS IS A MAJOR EARLY SPRING STORM WITH SEVERAL FEET OF SNOW FORECAST ALONG WITH CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW... SLEET...AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

So are you going to wait for a spring thaw before you head home?

We got two feet out of this system in northern california. But, I have not got a chance to drive the hour up to the mountains to play...

According to our local weather info we have received 24 to 30 inches of snow at home since yesterday. The storm will not let up until early tomorrow. We should get at least 3 feet and possibly the full 4 feet predicted on the mountain. :letitsnow:

We are going to try to make an attempt to get home on Friday afternoon. Most roads in NE Wyoming and SE Montana are totally shutdown. I will have to walk about 1.5 miles from the state highway to get to the snow machines and BR100+. The others are all parked at home 3 miles from the highway. The snow is extremely wet and will not last long. I hope to get some pics of the spring blizzard snow and fun with the snow cat this weekend if we can even get home with all the closed roads.:snow2_smi:

The major snow storm in WY is letting up some. Most of the major highways in the state are closed or have chain law requirements. I am still in Billings Montana waiting on the roads to open. According to info I have received from some highway department employees in WY, we have many snow drifts 5+ foot deep and some as much as 12+ foot deep across the major highways and interstate highways. Snow totals are about 3+ foot on the level. The web cam looking towards my home is blocked partially from snow. I have never seen that happen before. :snow2_smi: There are stranded motorists in some areas along with many accidents and stuck vehicles. I am sure we will have some deaths that are directly related to the storm. Power lines are down in many areas and many isolated homes such as mine are just an unknown for now.

We finally made it home today. A couple of young fellows gave us snowmobile rides into the snow cats at our home. We did lots of shoveling to open gates and make some pathways so we did not have to wade in snow to our waists. We did get about 3.5 to 4 foot of new snow. In places the snow is over the top of the fences. :snow2_smi:

We took the 1200 LMC back to highway 16 yesterday to unload the Jeep. When we got back to the highway my old 1404WT Thiokol Imp was already there being loaded by the new owners for a weekend at their mountain home. The 1404 Thiokol still has less than 500 original hours. It is faster than my 1200 LMC on level ground but not in deep wet snow and uphill.

Finally got the snow off the deck....The ground was showing last Monday when we left for Billings. Now it is 4 to 5 foot deep.

I am so Jonsen to go and play in the SNOW! Now I know how a man in prison feels looking through the bars at the Tropicana girls sunning in the nude just on the other side of the fence!
