Snow Master--Cabin Noise

Wheels

New member
I'm in the market to buy a Snow Master, will be going to see one for sale in 2 weeks. I understand the cabin is quite noisy, I imagine from vibration and due to the type of construction. Has anyone encountered this problem and how have you delt with it? (other than turning off the engine). ie. carpeting or insulation. Thanks

There is no real sound deadening material in the "firewall" between the engine bay and the cabin, its just a sheet of aluminum. Further there are chains in that engine bay that rattle too. So if you want to deaden the sound you'd have to think like they do in the automotive industry with regards to applying sound deadening insulation. Start at the firewall and consider sound deadening insulation on the side walls inside the lower body of the cabin along the track mechanism. I'd guess that would probably do a good bit of reducing the noise.

My wife and I went for a ride last night. We have to talk at a somewhat elevated level but its not too bad. You'll have to be the judge after driving one if you want to sound insulate your cabin.

the fan that cools the engine and heats the cab also makes a lot of noise one of my leading noise makers was the back door rattling a little 3/4 inch foam board and weather stripping fixed it still running about 80db at 4500 rpm sound proofing and insulation will be my next move if you sound proof don't forget about the hood it will amaze you about how much noise gets reflected through the wind shield.

The majority of noise in all snowcats is Vibration induced noise. On the Snow Master the easiest fix is to simply have the entire inside bed lined. That is what I will be doing. That will eliminate allot of noise. My cabin is bare. but Dave Miesners was all insulated with paneling/foam. His you could carry on a normal conversation at full throttle. Mine on hard pack was a bit louder. Another idea the legendary (in his own mind) Grand Poobah of the Kristi Klan Klub aka KKK (BigA) came up with noise cancelling intercom head sets. They look cool. Im also sure they work since they are very close to what I wore when flying. Talk about allot of cabin noise. Try flying a Cesna! Hope this helps.

There is a ton of materials on the market to quiet down a snow cat .Yes I have a intercom system in my KT7 but there are other ways to kill the engine and track noise that cost a lot less . Research the internet and you will be surprized at all the new products .

Aircraft communications are MONAURAL in nature and do not need the extra channel as required for stereo. In addition, many pilots do prefer to offer their passengers the same in-flight entertainment that they experience in air carrier flights. To that end, Softcomm has introduced Stereo Models of our Panel Mounted Intercoms. These Stereo Models have all the features of our Monaural models PLUS allow the passengers full Stereophonic sound such as they may have in their homes or automobiles. These intercoms require the use of a Stereo Headset to hear both stereo channels. Softcomm produces a full line of Aviation Headsets including Stereo Headsets such as our C-40S.

Noise! Takes me about 2 days before I can hear again after driving in our track-master. Mostly due to the exhaust sitting/exiting outside the drivers window. If I close the window I can hear the person next to me screaming. Most likely screaming because of lack of brakes. :brows:

summer project

go to a web site called quiet car.net. seewhat you think. do both sides of your fire wall and both sides of the metal below the seats. also your floor.

This sounds like a job to work on over the summer. the noise is fine when i am by myself :) but the family complains about it being noisy. i will have to try panels and the heater noise reducer
