SkiDozer 302HD rear drive hubs

Question, the bearing is held in by a "internal nut" see the picture, it has a rectangular hole to grab/drive the nut...but which way? is it lefthanded? I have tried both ways and it has not moved at all. Also can I pull the axel shaft out without dropping a bearing or something in the diff? dont want to have to take it apart. The reason for removal at all is the inner oil seal is leaking.

You can pull the axle right out without a problem. You will need to pull the seal out and you will see a lock tab holding the seal sleave from coming loose they are right handed both sides

Good luck, most people forget to grease the zerk on the inside of the hubs

there is a seal in the pic? thought that was all bearing... so the lock tab is holding the seal sleave=internal nut? sorry I dont understand where the lock tab is..

The seal is all the to outside installed backwards the lip of seal rides on the seal
Sleave, which is also the lock nut you half to pull it to see the lock tab holding it
From coming loose.

The slot you see at the end is the internal keyway that keeps the lock ring from spinning it is the axle tube

Thanks Boggie, I did get it apart. I'll contact a few bearing places today to source new seals. Some kind of large toothed socket sure would have been handy, the nuts had just too much resistance to turn by hand. May fab a tool to reinstall them. I assume the inner nut is just snug to the bearing. Is there a TQ spec?

Got it all back to geather with new seals on both sides, I had to make a tool to turn the nuts...figured I'd share a pic of it. the ring is from a garage door spring, chain links to fit in the nut, just other parts and a old monkey-wards 9/16 socket...
