SkiDozer 252 Hub Drive Failure

I've sheared off the 6 studs which couple the right axle to the sprocket via the axle hub. I was pushing heavy snow, the cat stopped moving, and the axle hub was found hanging from the end of the axle. (I noticed in a picture in a recent thread that the SV302 has 8 studs, so I'm guessing this might have been a weak link.)

The manual isn't very clear about the studs. Can anyone tell me whether they're splined like automotive studs or simply threaded into the hub. Can this repair be performed with the tracks on, or do I pull 'em off?

The "Hub - axle" (p# 601009900) has 6 holes the studs go through. A couple of the holes are somewhat elongated. Should this be replaced, or can it be fixed, or is it okay to use as-is?

Any advice about how/why this happened, or how to best repair it, is very welcome. Thanks in advance.

Paul

THE MANUAL SAYS 1/2" X 1 1/4" GR8 KNURLED. I THINK THESE ARE THEM

Update: We found one broken end w/ nut and examined it closely. It appeared to have the beginnings of a thread on the broken end. We used that nut to double-nut one stud on the left side of the machine, and were able to back it out. They appear to be double-threaded studs, simply screwed into the housing. Now to get 'em out...

They are double-threaded studs. They came out after drilling, with an easy-out.

Prinoth apparently doesn't carry the studs. I can find them locally.

But the 1/2" i.d. cone-washers which fit between the studs and the hub are gone, and the local Prinoth place has not yet found a current replacement. I'm told they were used on older heavy truck hubs, but so far I'm not finding anything to replace them. Anybody got some old ones they can sell? Or know of a place to get 'em new?

I found "conical washers" at Mcmaster-carr just now.
Just an idea if you haven't looked there.
Fastenal might have something, too.

Pixie,

Thanks, I checked both of those, along with Graingers, and found nothing. BUT...

Here's the skinny on parts:

Studs - Bombardier part # 370901000
NAPA
part #ST82 $2.29 each It's a bit longer, but fits fine.

Dowels - Bombardier part # 114054800
YZ Truck Repair Dodgeville, Wis. (608) 935-5448
1/2" i.d. wedge, as used in older Chevy truck rear end's drive flanges $1.00 each Identical part.

After searching high and low, including Prinoth, all over the internet for a couple hours, I found 'em in a rural town's small truck repair facility. Go figure...

I hope this helps any others in need. I'm back on the snow.
