I only wish I had had a camera ready and available for many of the signs we didn't snap photos of but were also good ones!

Further proof, this time in carvings, that the Brits have a sense of humor!

And a few more . . .
I think it is fair to say that I was amused at every turn of my trip

What the heck was that?

My best guess is:
"That bright light is called sunlight. Don't stare at the sun, it will blind you. You aren't likely to see it again for a long time so kep this in mind!"

It was a sign to remind you to duck your head so you don't hit it on the stone doorway at the top of the stairs. Many of the doorways in the ruins and the old castles were very low, roughly 5'6" so I did a lot of ducking under the doorways. Somewhere in the 3000 pictures we took is a photo of me next to Melen. Melen is standing in the doorway and her head barely clears the opening while I am standing next to the opening with my neck at about the top of the door opening.

And your head is on the BACKSIDE of the opening right??? Best family portrait imaginable. :poke:

You got some great pics. I think my fav of that bunch was the sculpture WAY up on the building....

A couple of those make perfect sense to me.

The cat on the roof is to keep pigeons and other birds away.

I'm assuming the tires strapped to the roof are to keep the roof from blowing away.

The stairs.... Well, all I could think of was the stairs at Diamond Head HI
Here's a pic.

The cat is there to keep RATS away, or so we were told by the boat captain who was piloting the boat we were on. Apparently they (both rats and tin cats) were common 500 years ago.

The tires are on the roof of a hay bale. That little structure is all hay.

We've got lots more of those, some of the stone work is really amazing.
