Good boy!
Rest In Peace
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A State Highway Patrol drug-sniffing dog has died.
Troopers are "mourning the loss of one of their successful and dedicated drug-detecting canines, Hans, who had been with the patrol since May 2001," Lt. William Stidham said in a news release.
Hans, born in the Netherlands in 1999, died Friday after a short illness.
Hans received the Recognition Award for Meritorious Service in 2003 from the American Police Hall of Fame and holds two patrol records.
He found the largest amount of psilocybin mushrooms -- 23 pounds -- in one traffic stop and the largest amount of cash -- $1,032,980 -- in another stop.
During his career, he helped seize $59,686,829 in assets, including 3,760 pounds of marijuana, 415 pounds of cocaine, 11 pounds of heroin, 23 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, 36 vehicles and $4,786,986.
Hans lived with handler Trooper Al Romero and his family.
