Shelby our chocolate lab

lilnixon

AKA LILVIXEN
Shelby had to have surgery on her left rear ACL yesterday, she did fine thru the surgery, but was so out of it last night, she was unable to stand, and kept us up most of the night whining, poor girl didn't know where she was or what she wanted. John did most of the tending to her, as I had to go to work this am. We were both so worried, that the little sleep we did get was fitful, (maybe that is why we are goofier than normal) but worth it because she is such a SWEET HEART. This morning before I left for work I took her out side, and she finally did her business. We went to the kitchen, and she ate and drank, taking some of the worry away. She still has a long way to go in the healing process. We will post pictures of her with her little pink cast.

I'll bet it won't be as long as you think. Doggies heal lickity split. Shelby will be runnin around in no time, is my guess.

The Dr said it is a 6 to 8 week recovery period for the little girl. We didn't know how we are going to keep her calm for that long, so the Dr perscribed a sedative. We are going to use it sparingly, but we don't want her to reinjure her self.

Best wishes to Shelby. Glad you are there for her Nixon. At least one woman in your house will respect you.

We are lucky to have Shelby, and John was great with her.

I will have you know that there are 2 and 1/2 woman in his house that respect him.

Awwwwww best wishes for a speedy recovery for Shelby.:flowers::flowers:
I know how much you all love those dogs.

Shelby is doing much better today. She is learning how to maneuver with the cast on. She is trying to wander around in the yard when we let her out, but we limit her quite a bit. John is play nursemaid to her and spoiling her as well as Forrest and Belle more than usual. I will post some pictures of her when I am off on Tuesday.

Good to hear. Hope Shelby makes a complete recovery. Keep John on the leash though, he might bite a neighbor.

I don't have to worry about him biting the neighbors, cause they are too far away, but I do worry about him chasing the cars. He likes doing that almost as much as posting on FF.
:yum::yum:

If there is reincarnation, I want to come back as Nixon's dog.

Not a chance . I remember You and, "old black Joe " the greatest Lab of all , laughing at Me for missing a pheasant that was stone still and 15 yards away .
While Joe just kind of held it in , You had to ask "how much did You lead Him by ? "

Ol' Joe laughed at you when your back was turned. You're right, though. He was quite a dog. Sounds like you've had ( and have ) some fine ones yourself. Good luck with Shelby, Forrest and the rest. I know they are all loved and how much joy they bring you and Jan.

Shelby had her cast removed today. Everything looks good. We have to keep her quite (a daughting task, her nick name at the Vet's is spaz dog) for at least 2 more weeks. She is the sweetest dog, she has been so good, I am looking forward to letting her run around the yard again.

Thanks for all your kind thoughts.

John and Janelle

That's nice to hear Jan.
She is indeed, a beautiful girl.:flowers:

Glad it turned out so well.:clap::clap:

We had the same thing happen to one of our dogs many years ago and it never healed 100%. Pretty close though. It was always a little "tight" after the operation.

The worst thing as far as I was concerned was taking her outside to do her business. To keep the weight off her leg I had to use a sling around her back end and lift her. With only two front legs on the ground she thought she could run like a whippet. Man, that was hard on my back but it was worth it. She had many good years after that. I still miss that pooch.
