New member
I have decided to part with my trackmaster. I am looking at moving towards a Tucker for next winter. Wife said that I have to sell the TM first. :ermm: Anyway, I'm putting the price at a firm $5500. If anyone wants pictures or more information they can PM me. There are currently a few posts as well as video about the TM. If you search youtube for utahwilson you can find some video clips. TM is presently located at our cabin in Northern Utah.

Main reason, I don't like folding myself up to get inside/outside of it. I don't have the tools or time to put into it where I would feel comfortable taking it more than a few miles from my cabin. I do like the steering wheel verses sticks for driving and the tucker while most likely overkill, just looks cool. Have a great hill at our place for sledding and I would like a plow. :brows: However, it is nice to have something that is rare and iconic.

Looks like you spent your money with Marty. Nice low hour Tucker. I am sure you will have fun with it and it runs a lot quieter than the snot track. I never found that "special love" for the snot track I had either, so it went up north, along ways up north......:whistling:

That Tucker looks like the one at Semi Service in SLC....

I've seen it up close and I believe it's being misrepresented. Well, maybe they've changed their tune, but when I looked at it they told me it had extremely low hours (based on the hour meter). Simply put: BS!

It has paint job that I use as an example of exactly what I don't want; poor surface preparation, big runs in the paint that they just left as-is, etc. Even Earl Scheib would not be proud of that one. If you look at the idler wheels you'll see that a bunch are non-Tucker wheels. That may, or may not, be an issue to you, but it does beg the question: "If it has such few hours, why have so many wheels been replaced"?

I really don't like being lied to. Sometimes I'll try and come across as ignorant to see what a salesman will say. Is he an honest guy? Based upon what I was told by the folks at Semi Service, I wouldn't do business with them.

Lastly the price. I was quoted $23K. That's absolutely ridiculous for that machine. It's a 1542 which equals mid-length tracks and a two door cab. It doesn't have a factory 6-way blade. There's nothing special about that setup.

Tucker made three-door "sedan" models and four-door cab models as well. Both of those configurations are much more desirable for cabin access, and they command a premium price.

Blackfoot Tucker, thanks for the advice. I have not actually looked at the Tucker. I called and was told a price of 18k. Also, if in fact it is a 2 person cab I would rather have a larger cab.

the guys with the larger liquid cooled snow cats like to give us aircooled guys a bad time but you get a bombi driver ar a haggie driver os some one with mattracks and the first thing they say is stay away from those willows yet with my little snow trac i pick out a trail and cruse right through shoulder deep snow with out a problem the other cat owners up here are always amazed at what the little snow trac can do.

utahwilson,

They've had that thing for at least 18 months (through two selling seasons). Maybe they got the clue that it was ridiculously overpriced at $23K. Even at $18K you can definitely do better.

There was recently a 1980's low-hour 1644 for sale on a northern California Craigslist that looked pretty nice. They were asking $18.5K for it. IMHO it was a much better value than the one at Semi Service.

I don't really know why but it appears to me that Tucker's seem to hold their value better than other 'Cats. Of course there are exceptions, but it's hard to find a "steal" on a used Tucker.

I spoke with Bill Cook at Cook's Equipment (east coat Tucker dealer) last week and he told me they are taking in 10 year old Tuckers as trade-ins and after some refurbishment they are reselling them for more than they sold for brand new!

there was a 1600 on graigs list for 6k said it nedded a little work i called up and talked tothe guy he sounded like a streight shooter and the only things that needed attention was a bit of rust in the body around the wind shield and the rubber on the tracks needed replacement if iremember right he might have said the sprokeds were worn but it had a good running road oiler and automatic its slow top speed and weight turned me off i have weight limitations for crossing public lands with out a permit and if i cant get over 15mph on the flat ground its makes long trip.

I owned that 'Cat and sold it to the present owner. He added the winch, dual Optima batteries, battery isolator and the graphics.

It is a very nice machine and the combination of three-door cab and 6-way front blade is extremely rare. I thought long and hard before I let it go because I knew I wouldn't find another.

Before I sold it I made a list of everything I did to it (quite extensive). If anyone is seriously interested in it I'll be glad to email them that list.

dds,

I don't know what year the machine you mention is, but at least around 1980 you could not get a Diesel engine in a 1600 series machine. The standard engine was a 318 and the optional engine was a 360.

Tucker offered a 1700 series which was a heavier duty version of the 1600 series. The standard engine was a 440 and there were a couple of different Diesel options. The 1700 series also use Dana 70 axles as opposed to Dana 60's on the 1500 and 1600 series machines.

Most of the 1700's I've either seen or read about had a Detroit Diesel 4-53 engine. It's very noisy. That might not be an issue for one being used as a groomer, but for a family that wants to access their remote cabin I think the noise would get old-fast. Still, $6,000 is way less than I've seen a decent Tucker sell for.

Rust is an issue with these machines. Tucker uses aluminum on the roof, door skins and floors, but the rest of the body is steel.
