Sedan vs. SUV. Are mfgr's right focusing on SUV's? Sedan is almost dead?

A couple months ago, we were shopping for a new(er) vehicle to replace a sedan in our aging fleet.
Here's the thread - Punchline is that at our age, we quickly scrapped a sedan as a go-to vehicle and got a SUV (Mazda CX-5, the nice, luxurious turbo edition).

Fast forward a couple months and my (20-something) daughter's sedan really needed to be replaced due to undercarriage rot (2010 Honda Accord). Of all the vehicles, she decided against a sedan and went with a 2024 Toyota RAV-4.

My son (another 20-something) has been driving a Camry for years. Today, he got his first drive of the aforementioned Mazda CX-5 and loves it. I couldn't believe it but in general, he said he liked it better than my BMW 5-series that I let him drive from time-to-time. I think it's mainly the gadgets on the newer vehicles vs. my BMW that is sparce on "amenities and creature comforts (like cup holders)". Both are screaming ass fast and a lot of fun to drive.

So, are sedan's pretty much dead? I'm old, I like SUV. The Mrs. (not allowed to say she's old) likes SUV's. My relatively young kids now like SUV's.

Who is buying sedans?

PS - My real preference is a full-size truck but that's in the garage and not part of this conversation.

Sadly, I agree. The sedan is obsolete.
Most family cars are for utility, not style. The rich will still ride in sedans and limos but the working mom's and dad's find SUV's and pick-ups the most useful.
IMHO the last decent Sedans were early 90's Ford Crown Vicks and the Mercury/Lincoln sister ships.

Whoa. Slow down there nelly.
I do not think sedans are dead. Declining in market share, yep. going away for good. No way.

I am lucky in that I can have a sedan, a SUV and a truck. All fill a need.

I use the sedan around town. It is better on gas and more fun to drive. I guess I am in the minority but I am not alone.

With the push for EV's sedans can be more aerodynamic and should get more miles per charge, or per gallon.

Here is an blog article which agrees with me that sedans are not dead:

Toyota came out with a ‘raised’ sedan.

The Crown

Sedan looks, but elevated to ‘crossover’ height. Easy in and out like a small or mid size SUV, more reserved look of a sedan.

Same with us. We have a fleet of 5 vehicles on the road in our house. 2 sedans. 2 suvs and a truck. (Two actually if you count the plow truck) I love my truck but often, when I have to run to the city, I'm taking the old '99 Pontiac grand am. I call it my poor man's sports car. It's got a peppy little v6 in it and whips around in smaller parking lots easily.
