Screwed up emails!

This really burns me up and I want to know if any of you have had this happen before.

A friend got an email from me and attached was a list of other email addresses that I don't know or put there.

The email address to me, but my name was spelled wrong and to another address, but somehow got attached to this email and was sent out to the other emails.

I ran a scan for virus's on my main computer, but came back clear after doing and update on the AGV program which has always been a good Anti-Virus program. But this email was sent from my iPhone and that is suppose to be a virus free setup from Apple.

Any ideas, because I don't want it to happen again.

I still get emails from a friend who passed nearly a year ago. When I investigated, I was told that some scam programs can tap your contact list and send their own mails to your list. Had it happen another time with my client list.

The fix I used was to change my password, thus eliminating the possibility that the scammer could get into my contact list.

Thanks, did that first thing already!

Seemed to happen only once that I am aware of, even when I forward an email, I erase all address on so when I forward humor stuff or photos, there is no address on it but mine.

Funny part is that none of the addresses were from me, it seemed to come from/to a spammer email. My name was slept wrong, but the email address was correct.

Oh, the odd part is I was using my iPhone, don't know of any scams/spams run off those do you?

AT&T and Apple claim they are virus proof?!?!

Foggy, I don't think that is is you that is sending the emails. What I was told is that the spammers get into your contact list and then send their own spam to your contacts. Because it is being sent through your computer, it appears to come from you. Once you change the password on the computer being hijacked, the spammer can no longer use it to forward their crap.

My best guess as a person who knows little about computers, is that your phone has nothing to do with the emails.

One other thing I did was to add an email account with Yahoo that I use only for those instances when someone insists that I give them an emailaddress to get something I want. There is nothing on it, and it is never used. By adding this address to my contact list, I can immediately see if my system is being used for forwarding since they will forward it to an active account.

Well it appeared to have happened only once, and I changed my password as soon as I heard about it, and it seems to have stopped.

Thanks for the advice!

Get the free version of Zone Alarm, and you should not have any problems like this again. This is the best firewall in existence IMO, and for the price ($0.00) it simply can't be beat. If you want to check the security on your computer right now, go to www.grc.com and run "Shields Up!" The site (and Steve Gibson) are legitimate and you'll definitely find out how secure your system really is!!
