I found this locally for $300.00. It is a Honda EB5000 generator. These sell for $2500.00 new. The guy that had it made the mistake of running it on not so even ground. The oil was covering the safety switch but not going where it should have to lubricate the upper end. The motor is not seized but is a bit on the tight side. I can pull the starter cord. But not hard enough to start the motor. I'll have to pull the motor apart to see what is wrong with it. I did find a complete motor kit for under $100.00 on the internet.

I hate you!:D Where do you get the time to look at all these things? Do you have a job or are you retired?

You are the "Deal King"!

I'm sorry, but I can't tell you all my secrets even though you live so far away. I am not working right now for a living. My wife is supporting us. I am however working full time on the old farmhouse next door for my daughter to move into. At least I was until a few weeks ago when I tore a tendon in my shoulder. That is being fixed next thursday. In the meantime, I am cleaning up on everything that I can get my hands on or make money on. The wife has wanted me to find a generator for our house for quite a few years now. I just never wanted to spend the money. That was until I saw this one. The 262XP saw was another great recent haul. I also bought this a little while back for $60.00. It is a Superwinch 4200 pound with remote. This will be going on my Cub Cadet.

Good finds Jim. Man what a deal on the generator. I need one of those.

With that winch on your cub cadet, you can hook it to a strong overhead beam and raise the cub off the ground, to show off and to clean the deck. :D

I got a Chicago Electric 4" grinder on eBay for $95 plus shipping. :pat: :D That's how my "deals" go...

I pulled the generator completely apart. The connecting rod is scorched a bit. There is no connecting rod bearing on these motors. I cleaned the surfaces and polished them up till the rod turned freely on the crankshaft. The piston and rings are fine. The shaft had a slight bit of metal transfer on it. That polished right off. I will have this back together tonight I hope. Maybe even have it running tonight.

Awwww, I was hoping you'd plastigage it so we'd know how much metal you removed. :poke: :D

Seriously though, I wish I had your knack for finding the good buys!

The generator is up and running like a top as of 7:30 tonight. I did however manage to break the brush holder in the generator when I split the unit apart. I'll have a new one tomorrow for it. I thought about using plastigage when I polished up the rod. But these motors only spin at 3600 rpm's. If I hear it rapping, I'll pull it apart again and replace the rod. For right now, it runs super and is pretty quiet. I let it run for an hour tonight. I did luck out on not breaking any gaskets. I even used the old head gasket and spayed it with gold headgasket sealer from Permatex. I used 600 grit paper and a wooden dowel to finish up the connecting rod.
