Hate to admit that I had to succumb to fear to make a change in my habits.

Only real bad vice I still have left is chewing tabacco.

Last week had to go in for a biopsy on the roof of my mouth. Both dentist and oral doctor mentioned that it didn't look like anything of concearn, but to be safe still wanted a sample.

Doctor told me that it would take a week or so to process the results, and the only time they would get back to me "quick" is if the lab saw their was an issue.

Well, had the biopsy done this past Monday, and in a meeting this past Thursday, and I get a voice mail. Turns out it was the doctor leaving me a message and my heart almost dropped when I heard it was him (being so quick to call me within that week). Turns out everything is fine.

Interesting how one phone call can turn your life in a couple of different directions.

so will you stop chewing now? About six weeks ago I had life altering experience. So far so good for me as to losing weight.

I,m glad alls well Dz , I had a friend that wasn,t so lucky , I gave it up after that & just enjoy ceegars now , still bad for you , but a guys got to have something He enjoys . Best of luck

The wife was diagnosed with the dry form of macular degeneration at age 56, and the doc said that if she quit smoking it would help slow the progression of the disease. That was three years ago and she's holding her own with very minimal progression so far. It's throughout her family, so she's not going to escape it, along with heart disease.

FWIW, I will take menopause and hot flashes over quitting smoking any day of the week. She was a true bitch until she got squared away.

Murph, I'd like to think I'm dumb, but I'm not stupid:D

You really can't make a good argument for chewing to begin with.

I always said everyone has to die from something, but when it hits close to home such as having a biopsy done, you can tend to rethink things.

Yes, I stopped.

but a guys got to have something He enjoys .

Yeah, took my first chew after my first run down the Big Sandy river about 11 years ago. What's ironic is I took that first chew after a buddy had always been asking me if I wanted one. Why it's ironic is I took the dip because it was a great run, no problems and everyone was celebrating with some beers. I just happen to give up drinking the year before:hammer:

Yep, same here Murph. I'm loosing some weight (slow but sure).

Good luck with quiting DZ. That is one bad habit I never had.

60 minutes did a story a few weeks ago about a pouch that delivers nicotine but no spitting required. Perfect for times when a smoker cannot smoke. Made sense. The 60 minutes report said that a person using the pouch had a 90% less chance of getting cancer. Sounded good to me but the FDA will not allow them to advertise it that way since it is trading one habit for another. Sure quitting smoking would be better but for some (such as my brother) that is next to impossible. Why not show them a way to get the nicotine they need and reduce the chance for getting cancer?

I think they said more tests needed done on it and the 90% less chance number came from Sweden or one of the countries up in that part of the world.

We all to trade one habit for another more often than not.

Switch to Swedish snus. An 30+ year on-going study has shown no increased risk for oral cancer. Without going into all the details, the difference is in the way the tobacco is processed. Plus, it has plenty of nicotine, and you don't have to spit.

Yep, that is the pouch I was talking about in my post above. Thanks Rob!

Glad everything turned out ok DZ.

Plus, it has plenty of nicotine, and you don't have to spit.

Spitting was half the fun. Added the fact that there was nothing like taking a big swig from your coke bottle while driving only to find out you took a swig from your spit bottle instead:w00t2:

Honestly, haven't had a chew in two weeks and no problem. At this point, no craving for nicotine. Sometimes I think I did it after a while out of habit alone.
