Sad local news.

This happened on the road going to my place last week only 10 minutes from my house. Sad. A friend of ours was just infront of the bus having just passed. Looks like she had just gotten engaged the night before and was texting when she plowed into the back of a loaded school bus in the morning.

A friend of ours wife did the same thing last week. She was driving with their 1-year old daughter in her car seat when she dropped her phone while texting. While trying to pick the phone off the floor of the car she plowed into the car in front doing 60 mph. Luckily no one was seriously hurt but everybody was shaken up pretty good. That was the second time this year that she had rear ended the car in front while using her phone while driving.

There's a lesson to be learned here.

The lesson,,,; If you phone is so damn important to your life, DON"T DRIVE !!!

They really need to clamp down on texting and driving. Fairly stiff fine here in Manitoba and you get demerit points on your license. Still needs to be stiffer. When driving my semi I’m up higher and it’s alarming how many people have their phone in their hands. As far as I’m concerned it should be treated like impaired driving. I would guess texting is the leading cause of accidents, or near the top. The new vehicles with basically a tv screen with all the functions you have to scroll through just to change the heat temperature is just as dangerous.

I agree. I hate driving my wife's new minivan for that very reason.
I love my '95 Dodge one-ton because everything is operated by a discrete "knob," "lever," or "button".
Including the transmission!!!

There's a reason why I drive a '99 grand am for a city beater. Simple stupid. The abs pump doesn't work so it's just got manual brakes, no cruise control. Only thing it has is electric windows. No fancy electronics to distract me. My phone stays in my pocket on silent.
