RIP Mr. Neighbour

Well-known member
My neighbour passed away on Saturday during the night sometime. I just found out about it this morning. We were quite good friends. My oldest son used to go over to their house all the time and watch cartoons with him, color him a picture etc... My son used to call him "Mr. Neighbour" all the time. Nice older couple. We had quite a few good conversations out in the driveway as it was a shared driveway. I used to take care of their lawn in the summer and do the snow removal in the winter.

So, with that said, as soon as I found out about his passing, I went over to offer my condolenses. Looks like I'll be playing guitar at his funeral service. I've played a couple weddings in the past and used to play at church all the time but never a funeral. It's the least I can do for them.

So sorry for your loss Brian, sometimes we need to take a lesson from the kids.....not all old people are a burden to society, lots have so much to offer , if we have the time to listen and learn. I am sure your kids have learned things you could not teach them from "Mr. Neighbour".
I am sure Mrs. Neighbour will be needing your kids love also.

I remember you telling us about helping this neighbour before Brian, if it's the same one.
Sorry to hear about it.
It's way cool that you'll be playing at his funeral.
How nice!

good for you to use your music talent this way.............can you do Willie, you can do mine............at the cat place............rockin good time!

I have two elderly neighbour's actually. One right beside me who's husband passed away last year and one directly across the back lane who has a shared driveway with our rental house(where we used to live) We were close to both sets of neighbours as they've lived on this block all their lives and my father used to live right next door to the one who just passed away when he was young. So, we've known them all our lives basically. Nice people. If any of you know chruch hymns, I'll be playing and singing As the Deer at the funeral. It's a nice song.

Going back to Mr. Neighbour who passed away, I remember taking him out a few years ago for a ride in the trail groomer around some of the local trails. He had a smile on his face from ear to ear. When I'd go out hunting in the fall, I'd often bring them back a few birds to eat for supper. Same with fishing. I'm going to miss the friendly chats we used to have out in the yard.

You are a very special man.
My elderly neighbour Mrs. Moore passed a while back too.
I used to take her hot meals and just sit there and listen to her talk to me, and clean the house for her.
She was big into Frank Sinatra and Doris Day, she'd watch their old films over and over again.
None of her family bothered much to check in on her, but I did.
Took her to mass with me, took her to the local quick shop to buy her lottery tickets.
Anyway.. ya done good Brian!

Sorry for your loss Brian. I have a "Mr. Neighbor" accross from me at the farm. His wife passed last year and he looks forward to my comming out there. We have some nice chats and story telling time. He's an old farmer. A wealth of knowledge. Those are the kind of relationships that add to ones "Quality of Life".

sorry for your loss m8 i know how it feels to lose a good neighbor....you like me done the odd job to help out and thats what counts...remember the good times.

The service will be this afternoon at 2pm. I'm starting to get a little nervous. I haven't played or sung in front of a large crowd much in over 12 yrs. I played guitar at a couple weddings in the past but nothing where the spotlight is on me for quite some time. Been practicing for the past couple days pretty steady. I'll do fine though. I always did in the past.

Thanks again everyone for your thoughts over the past few days.

Deep breathes and do your neighbor proud....thoughts are with you at this time.
