Ready for next winter

muleman

Gone But Not Forgotten
Spent the past 4 days getting wood in for next winter. We cut up and split a tri-axle load of hardwood I bought from a local logging company and then hauled over 8 pickup loads I purchased at my Amish buddies auction last Saturday. Somewhere between 10-12 Full cords jammed in there floor to ceiling. I will get some more slab wood once things dry out a little around here.

Now there is a man who looks ahead!!!!Good on ya there Muleman......a few years ago I took down some trees and offered the wood to anyone who wanted it for the taking....No takers...to hot ...to hard to get to...ect...so I cut and split it and called a friend ..and he came right down and loaded up 3 o4 4 loads on his farm truck...he said it came to almost 14 cords.....that winter after it got cold I had all sorts of calls wanting wood...........Lazy folks around here!!!!

It is nice to know it is already done and will get a good amount of drying time for next winter. The heat output is much better that way.

Muley,

Can you pile new wood on one side of your pile and use seasoned wood off the other side, Without handling it again ?

Yes. The back side is open so we can get the wood from there and carry it around if we want. We were so low this year that the pile in front of the boiler is all that was left so we moved it with the skid steer before we loaded this wood. Of course I also have a few dump truck loads of slab wood which will be my main fuel from now till I shut down around Memorial day. Then we use slabs from Labor day till the real cold weather hits around the start of November.
