Rash of Suicide Attempts

I'm not on duty today, but our district had (as of 6:45 p.m.) two more suicide attempts today. Add to that at least two more over the last couple of days and it makes you wonder what is going on. These are people of all ages and both genders; 52 y/o female, 16 y/o male, 22 y/o female, etc. Is there some weird phase of the moon or alignment of the planets? Unfortunately, I rarely find out the reasons for the suicide attempts, other than "recently fought with husband, mother, etc" but all of us do that, right? And then there are the different methods they try, with overdose/alcohol comsumption being a favorite of the teens and older women, slit wrists sitting in the bathtub is another popular method. One of guys on my shift suggested that the record rainfall had something to do with it but people in the northwest are used to the rain.
So what is the point of this post? Just letting off steam, I guess. If these people truly cared for their friends/family, they would never try to kill themselves.

I think You just made a very valid point . It seems as if it might be the ultimate insult to those that are left in this world .

I have seen studies where lack of sunshine can lead to major depression. The longer this lack of sunlight, the deeper the depression gets. The one study I saw they were trying artifical light to see if it could help relieve the depression. The results were questionable in my mind.
So, BH, I think all the rain you've had up there is part of the equation.

So, do you think suicide is the ultimate FU? It does say they obviously do not care about the ones they are leaving behind? ....or are they just so wrapped up in their own trials and tribulations that they are not thinking clearly, and do not see the big picture.
In my totally unprofessional opinion, I'd say they were totally upset with everyone in their lives, and it is a this will show them action. Ofcourse I could be way off base. I've never known anyone close that has done the deed.

Take a look at the suicide rate in Alaska. They go nuts up there when the sun goes down for winter. When the summer sun comes they can't sleep.

I know I get pretty depressed when it's gray and gloomy for a long time. My caffeine and carb consumption goes through the roof. It's the only way (OTC) to replace the serotonin (sp?) that your body would normally get from the sunshine.

Nothing like some sunny weather to make me all manic and happy.
