It started raining yesterday around lunchtime and hasn't stopped. It does slow down on occasion but along with high winds and thunder storms, the powerlines around our office got torn down. No hydro expected where I work till 8pm this evening so they sent us all home for the day. At least we didn't get the flooding that the city got. Thunder Bay, about a 3 hr drive from me, was hit hard and lots of flooding occurred. My parents say they were alright but many of the side roads are washed out and most rivers are now overflowing the banks. This is also where member norscaner lives. He should be alright though as he isn't right in the city.

The City of Thunder Bay has issued a state of emergency.

This is in large part to the water sewage treatment plant on Victoria Avenue being flooded. Workers are trying to pump out water, just to try and get a look at the damage and assess the situation from there.

This means, all city residents are not to use any extra water. That means: flushing toilets, washing clothes, running baths, taking showers. All would put extra and undue pressure ont he city's water system.

The city is also saying at this hour, approximately 300 homes are flooded, but that's an early estimation. Most of the homes within the city that are flooded are located in the east end, Intercity and Northwoods area.

Oliver-Paipoonge and Conmee townships ahve also declared states of emergency. Highway 11-17 from the Harbour expressway to Sistonen's corner is closed. Oliver road is closed. Other road closures include: Twin City Cross-Roads, Fraser Rd. Boulter Rd. Veley Lan, Maki Rd and Mud Lake.

Reeves Lucy Kloosterhuis for Oliver-Paipaoonge and Kevin Holland are not issuing a boil water advisory officially, but if you rely on well water, it might be a good idea.

I understand the school board is meeting right now to make a decision on what do with students. Stay tuned for an update on that. Schools already closed this morning include: Crestview, McKenzie, Five Mile, Gorham and Ware, Valley Central, Kakabeka Falls, Whitefish Valley ad Thunder Bay Christian.

Norwesterview is open for now - but with out school bus transportation.

Once again, the city of Thunder Bay has issued at state of emergency and are reminding residents not to use water unnecessarily. Do not flush, wash clothes, avoid showers or baths if at all possible. The treatment plant is under water and we remind you to use extreme caution if you have to go anywhere today.

Not looking good! I'm heading that way on friday for the weekend. Hopefully the water has gone down by then. Still no flooding here thankfully. I can fully sympathize with the people there. We had a major storm like that come through here a few years ago. Half the houses in town ended up flooded. The sewage treatment plant failed and the sewers were backing up all over town within minutes. People who had basement washrooms had sewer backing up coming out of the toilets and shower drains. Imagine having 4 ft of that in your basement.

Wow! Now I know where all the storms that went north of us ended up at. Saw some long lines on radar that all seemed to end up in your area. We actually need some rain around here, but not that much. Farmers are able to till and plant bottom ground early around here.

Its all good here ,nothing we cant handle just makes getting into the back lakes for fishing a little easier
When I bought our property and built our house I had a wee bit of rain like this in mind.Lots of roads washed out and folks stranded but not a real problem.

The National Weather Service has placed my area in an "Extreme Drought" condition, which is one step worse than the "Severe Drought" condition we were in. At my house we have had 15/100's of an inch of rain since April 1st.

I guess this year will be the year that I go ahead and walk my excavator into my lake and dig out all the muck that settles in lakes and reduces their depth. The trouble is that I cannot get my dump truck down in there. It will get stuck. That means I have to dig out an area, jump on my track loader, scoop up the muck and then drive out of the lake and dump it into my dump truck. Sort of makes for slow progress that way, but I can't think of a better way.
